Hillsboro High School (New Mexico)
The Hillsboro High School, in Hillsboro, New Mexico, is a historic Mission/Spanish Revival-style school building that was built in 1922. It was designed by El Pasobased architects Trost and Trost. Located on the southeast corner of Elenora St. and First Ave., it has also been known as Sierra County High School and it has been designated SR 1304. Hillsboro, New Mexico
Hillsboro is an Unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Sierra County, New Mexico, Sierra County, New Mexico, United States, located in the southwestern part of the state. It was founded in 1877, following the discovery of gold. The community was the county seat of Sierra County, New Mexico, Sierra County from 1884 until 1936, when Hot Springs (now called Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Truth or Consequences) became the county seat. The town was named Hillsborough by prospectors in December 1877, but later shortened to Hillsboro. By 1880, the town had four companies of soldiers and 400 miners, but the population soon grew to 700. A county courthouse was built in 1892. By 1907, the population was 1200. Trost & Trost Architects & Engineers, often known as Trost & Trost, was an architectural firm based in El Paso, Texas. The firm's chief designer was Henry Charles Trost, who was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1860. Trost moved from Chicago to Tucson, Arizona in 1899 and to El Paso in 1903. He partnered with Robert Rust to form Trost & Rust. Rust died in 1905 and later that year Trost formed the firm of Trost & Trost with his twin brother Gustavus Adolphus Trost, also an architect, who had joined the firm as a structural engineer. Between 1903 and Henry Trost's death on September 19, 1933, the firm designed hundreds of buildings in the El Paso area and in other Southwestern cities, including Albuquerque, Phoenix, Tucson, and San Angelo. The Mission Revival style was part of an Architectural style, architectural movement, beginning in the late 19th century, for the Revivalism (architecture), revival and reinterpretation of American colonial styles. Mission Revival drew inspiration from the late 18th and early 19th century Spanish missions in California.
