Haydee Ong
Haydee Ong is a Filipino basketball coach and former player who is the head coach of the UST Growling Tigresses women's basketball team. She was the head coach of the Philippines women's national basketball team from 2008 to 2014. In October 2024, she was named the inaugural commissioner for the upcoming Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (WMPBL). Early life and education Ong was inspired to play basketball from his father who was a varsity player while her mother initially opposed to the idea of her doing something that is considered as a "men's sport". Haydee Ong later attended the University of Santo Tomas for her collegiate studies under an athletic scholarship. After graduating, she worked as a pharmacist for two years before getting involved in basketball again. Patrick Aquino
Patrick Henry Aquino (born May 30, 1971) is a Filipino basketball coach who serves as the head coach of the Philippines women's national basketball team, he has been appointed by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas since December 2014 when the team have a new corporate backer Ever Bilena, replacing long-time mentor Haydee Ong. This is the second time that Aquino has coached a national team, Aquino once coached for the Philippines women's national under-19 basketball team. Among his coaching achievements for promoted into Level 1 of 2017 FIBA Asia Women's Championship. 2025 WMPBL Season
The 2025 WMPBL season is the inaugural regular season of the Women's Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League as a professional league. It follows the Invitational Tournament which was held from January to April 2025. The WMPBL season itself will commence on June 29, 2025. Pilipinas Aguilas, defending champions and an amateur team are not participating. Format The 2025 regular season will start with the elimination round where all six participating teams will figure in a double round robin. The top two teams will earn a bye to the semifinals. The NU Lady Bulldogs are the collegiate women's basketball team of the National University (Philippines), National University (NU), which play in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP), the premiere sports league in the country. UST Tigresses
The UST Growling Tigers, Tigresses, Tiger Cubs and Tigress Cubs are the collegiate and high school men's and women's varsity teams of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. UAAP Season 79 (also known as UAAP LXXIX) is the 2016–2017 athletic year of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). This season, hosted by the University of Santo Tomas officially opened on September 3, 2016. The opening ceremony was held at the UST Plaza Mayor at 3:00 pm with the formal introduction of ballroom dancing as a demonstration sport in this season by the host school University of Santo Tomas (UST) at España, Manila. The official ceremony started at 5:00 pm as there was a concert party themed "Dare to Dream" where the official theme song for the season was revealed. However, unlike in the previous years when the first double-header basketball games were held following the opening ceremonies, this year it was held the following day, September 4 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
