Harvard–Yenching Institute
The Harvard–Yenching Institute is an independent foundation dedicated to advancing higher education in Asia in the humanities and social sciences, with special attention to the study of Asian culture. It traditionally had close ties to Harvard University and the now-defunct Yenching University, and its offices are located on the Harvard campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but it is not part of Harvard. History The Harvard–Yenching Institute (HYI) was founded in 1928 by Yenching University President John Leighton Stuart with funding provided solely from the estate of Charles Martin Hall, the inventor of a process for refining aluminum and the founder of the Aluminum Company of America (ALCOA). Cheeloo University
Cheeloo University (, alternatively known as "Shantung Christian College") was a university in China, established by Hunter Corbett American Presbyterian, and other English Baptist, Anglican, and Canadian Presbyterian mission agencies in early 1900 in China. History In 1864, the Yi Wen School Boys' School at Tengchow was established by Hunter Corbett, Presbyterian missionary to Yantai, Shandong, China. James Robson (academic)
James Robson (born December 1, 1965) is an American Sinology, sinologist and a James C. Kralik and Yunli Lou Professor of EALC, East Asian Languages and Civilizations at Harvard University and William Fung Director of the Harvard University Asia Center. Robson is the incoming director of the Harvard–Yenching Institute, Harvard-Yenching Institute, succeeding Elizabeth J. Perry. Education and career Robson received his BA in religious studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1987, and thereafter studied in China, Japan, and Taiwan for several years before pursuing his PhD at Stanford University. After completing his doctorate in 2002, he worked at Williams College from 2002–2004, and University of Michigan from 2004–2008, where he received tenure in 2008. Tu Wei-ming
Tu Weiming (born 1940) is a Chinese-born American philosopher. He is Chair Professor of Humanities and Founding Director of the Institute for Advanced Humanistic Studies at Peking University. He is also Professor Emeritus and Senior Fellow of Asia Center at Harvard University. Biography Tu was born on February 6, 1940, in Kunming, Yunnan Province, Mainland China, and grew up in Taiwan. Serge Elisséeff (; born Sergei Grigorievich Eliseyev; 13 January 188913 April 1975) was a Russian-French scholar, Japanologist, and professor at Harvard University. Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS), formerly Allahabad Agricultural Institute, is a government-aided university in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, India. It operates as an autonomous Christian minority institution under the 'Sam Higginbottom Educational and Charitable Society, Allahabad'. It was established in 1910 by Sam Higginbottom as "Allahabad Agricultural Institute" to improve the economic status of the rural population.
