Harper (sometimes referred to collectively as Harper Road, PEI, Harper Road) is a Canadian rural community located in western Prince County, Prince Edward Island, Prince County, Prince Edward Island. Among other roads, Harper is located on Route 158 (Prince Edward Island), Route 158, which runs from Route 2 (Prince Edward Island), Route 2 (Tignish) to Route 156 (Prince Edward Island), Route 156 (Palmer Road, Prince Edward Island, Palmer Road). The second community on Route 158 is Leoville, Prince Edward Island, Leoville, which continues to officially exist, although a 1998 civic address reform in Prince Edward Island saw all Leoville addresses consolidated under Harper. Many locals refer to Harper and Leoville as "Harper Road" collectively. Route 2, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway and the All Weather Highway, is the longest highway in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada, at . It is a two-lane uncontrolled access highway that runs nearly the entire length of the province, from Tignish to Souris. Route 2 was recognized as the first numbered highway in the province in 1890, when it opened between Charlottetown and Summerside. It passes through the cities of Summerside and Charlottetown and roughly parallels the former primary railway line through the province, which was abandoned in 1989. Tignish
Tignish is a Canadian town located in Prince County, Prince Edward Island. It is located approximately northwest of the city of Summerside, and northwest of the city of Charlottetown. It has a population of 719. The name "Tignish" is derived from the Mi'kmaq "Mtagunich", meaning "paddle". The name is also believed to come from a Gaelic phrase meaning “Home Place”. Tignish was founded in the late 1790s by nine francophone Acadian families, with further immigrants (mostly Irish) arriving in the 19th century and settling mostly in the nearby smaller locality of Anglo–Tignish (meaning "English Tignish"). Many of Tignish residents today are either of Acadian or Irish heritage.
