Harata Solomon
Harata Ria Te Uira Solomon (née Parata; 22 January 1925 – 20 July 1993) was a notable New Zealand teacher, entertainer, community leader and leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Of Māori descent, she identified with the Ngāti Raukawa, Ngāti Toa and Te Āti Awa iwi. She was born in Ōtaki, New Zealand, in 1925. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a local leader in the Relief Society. On 7 August 1947 she married her cousin Matuaiwi Solomon and had eight children together. At the 1962 local elections Matuaiwi stood for the Porirua Borough Council and was elected. Māori People
Māori () are the Indigenous peoples of Oceania, indigenous Polynesians, Polynesian people of mainland New Zealand. Māori originated with settlers from East Polynesia, who arrived in New Zealand in several waves of Māori migration canoes, canoe voyages between roughly 1320 and 1350. Over several centuries in isolation, these settlers developed Māori culture, a distinct culture, whose language, mythology, crafts, and performing arts evolved independently from those of other eastern Polynesian cultures. Some early Māori moved to the Chatham Islands, where their descendants became New Zealand's other indigenous Polynesian ethnic group, the Moriori. Queen's Service Order
The King's Service Order () established by royal warrant of Queen Elizabeth II on 13 March 1975, is used to recognise "valuable voluntary service to the community or meritorious and faithful services to the Crown or similar services within the public sector, whether in elected or appointed office". This order was created after a review of New Zealand's honours system in 1974. The King's Service Order replaced the Imperial Service Order in New Zealand. Ngāti Raukawa
Ngāti Raukawa is a Māori iwi (tribe) with traditional bases in the Waikato, Taupō and Manawatū/ Horowhenua regions of New Zealand. In 2006, 29,418 Māori registered their affiliation with Ngāti Raukawa. History Early history Ngāti Raukawa are descended from Raukawa, son of Māhina-a-rangi of Ngāti Kahungunu and Tūrongo, who was descended from the settlers of the ''Tainui'' canoe. One of Raukawa's descendants was Maniapoto, ancestor of the Ngāti Maniapoto iwi. Ngāti Raukawa established their territory in the southern Waikato and northern Taupō region. In the early 19th century many Ngāti Raukawa people migrated to the Manawatū, Horowhenua and Kapiti Coast region.
