Hanna Mariën
Hanna Emilie Mariën (born 16 May 1982) is a Belgian retired athlete and bobsledder. As a sprinter, Mariën specialized in the 200 metres and won gold in the relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Mariën later became a bobsleigher, competing for Belgium at the 2014 Winter Olympics. Athletics Mariën reached the semi-final at the 2006 European Championships and won the bronze medal at the 2007 Summer Universiade. At the 2007 World Championships she won a bronze medal in the relay, together with teammates Olivia Borlée, Élodie Ouédraogo and Kim Gevaert. With 42.75 seconds the team set a new Belgian record. At the 2008 Summer Olympics Mariën competed in the relay, together with Gevaert, Borlée and Ouédraogo. In their first round heat they placed first in front of Great Britain, Brazil and Nigeria. Herentals () is a municipality and city in the province of Antwerp. The municipality comprises the city of Herentals proper and the towns of Morkhoven and Noorderwijk. Elfje Willemsen (born 11 January 1985 in Turnhout) is a Belgian bobsledder who has competed since 2007. Bobsledding career Willemsen finished 18th in the two-woman event at the FIBT World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid, New York. She qualified with the national bobsleigh team for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Together with Eva Willemarck she reached 14th place in the Two-woman bob competition. Bobsleigh or bobsled is a winter sport in which teams of 2 to 4 athletes make timed speed runs down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sleigh. International bobsleigh competitions are governed by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (formerly the FIBT). The first bobsleds were built in the late 19th century in St. Moritz, Switzerland, by wealthy tourists from Victorian Britain who were staying at the Palace Hotel owned by Caspar Badrutt. The early sleds were adapted from boys' delivery sleds and toboggans. These eventually evolved into bobsleighs, luges and skeletons.
