The Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist () was the theft over several months in 2011 and 2012 of nearly of maple syrup, valued at C$18.7 million (equivalent to C$ million in ) from a storage facility in Quebec. The facility was operated by the Federation of Quebec Maple Syrup Producers () which represents 77 percent of the global maple syrup supply. Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is a sweet syrup made from the sap of maple trees. In cold climates, these trees store starch in their trunks and roots before winter; the starch is then converted to sugar that rises in the sap in late winter and early spring.
