Gowrie is a locality situated 1.6 km to the west of the New England Highway and approximately 29 km wouth of Tamworth, New South Wales, Tamworth in the New England (New South Wales), New England area of New South Wales, Australia. Australia Post identifies the district as a 'Delivery Area' within NSW post code area of 2340. Australian Bureau of Statistics identifies the area as a Community with a population of 92 as at the 2016 census. The district is the area bounded by the New England Highway in the east, from Bartons Lane south to Mt. Sugarloaf. New England Highway
New England Highway is an long highway in Australia running from Yarraman, north of Toowoomba, Queensland at its northern end to Hexham at Newcastle, New South Wales at its southern end. It is part of Australia's National Highway system, and forms part of the inland route between Brisbane and Sydney. The Crown Lands Acts 1861 (NSW) (or Robertson Land Acts) were introduced by the New South Wales Premier, John Robertson, in 1861 to reform land holdings in New South Wales and in particular to break the Squattocracy's domination of land tenure.
