The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' ) is the basic unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,479 gminy throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminy include cities and towns, with 322 among them constituting an independent urban gmina () consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). Its seat is the town of Sieniawa, which lies approximately north-east of Przeworsk and east of the regional capital Rzeszów. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 6,806 (out of which the population of Sieniawa amounts to 2,065, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 4,741). Majdan Sieniawski
Majdan Sieniawski () is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Adamówka, within Przeworsk County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland. It lies approximately north-east of Adamówka, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Adamówka, north-east of Przeworsk, and north-east of the regional capital Rzeszów. History The village was founded in the 17th century. Initially it was called ''Dobropole'', however, it was soon renamed to ''Majdan Sieniawski'' after its founder, nobleman Mikołaj Sieniawski from the Sieniawski (Leliwa), Sieniawski szlachta, noble family. In 1835, August Czartoryski established an institute for poor elderly people in the village. In 1881, the village had a population of 2,442, overwhelmingly Catholic by confession.
