Charlotte Furth
Charlotte Davis Furth (January 22, 1934 – June 19, 2022) was an American scholar of Chinese history. She was a professor at California State University, Long Beach, and at the University of Southern California. She was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and a Fulbright fellowship for her research, and published several books. Early life and education Charlotte Davis was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, and raised in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the daughter of Lambert Davis and Isabella Davis. She earned a bachelor's degree in French literature from the University of North Carolina in 1954. She completed doctoral studies in Chinese history at Stanford University in 1965, the same year her younger child was born. George Furth
George Furth (born George Schweinfurth; December 14, 1932 – August 11, 2008) was an American librettist, playwright, and actor. Life and career Furth was born in Chicago, Illinois, the son of George and Evelyn (née Tuerk) Schweinfurth. He was of German and Irish ancestry, and was raised as a Christian Scientist. He received a bachelor of science in speech at Northwestern University in 1954 and received his master's degree from Columbia University. A life member of the Actors Studio, Furth made his Broadway debut as an actor in the 1961 play ''A Cook for Mr. General'', followed by the musical '' Hot Spot'' two years later. Harold Furth
Harold Paul Furth (January 13, 1930 – February 21, 2002) was an Austrian-American physicist who was a pioneer in leading the American efforts to harness thermonuclear fusion for the generation of electricity. He died of a heart ailment on 21 February 2002. Early life Furth emigrated to the United States in 1941. His father fled a POW camp during WWI, but returned to Vienna a few years later. In his later years, he ran a shoe-making business with his family. He also developed an interest for literature. In the summer of 1939, Harold's father had escaped to Switzerland. After studying at the French-speaking École Internationale in Geneva, Harold immigrated to New York City in 1941. He later graduated at the head of his class at The Hill School. Otto von Fürth (18 November 1867 – 7 June 1938) was an Austrian physician, physiologist and biochemist. Fürth studied at the University of Prague, the University of Heidelberg and the University of Berlin. He worked at the University of Vienna, the University of Prague and the University of Straßburg where received his habilitation in medical chemistry in 1899. Peter G Furth is a researcher and professor at Northeastern University known for his work in transit planning, traffic signals, and bicycle infrastructure. Furth is also considered an expert on Dutch cycling policy and history. He is an advocate for European style cycling infrastructure to be brought to the United States. Furth developed the concept of "Bicycle Priority Lane markings" in 2009 which have since been implemented in several US cities. He also developed the "Level of Traffic Stress" method for categorizing cycling routes, which has been adopted as an organizing concept for some local cycling maps as well as research.
