Funky Fresh Few
Funky Fresh Few are a hip-hop act from Blackpool, Lancashire, England, who started out as a graffiti crew called Imperial Arts. The band originally consisted of James Folks, Damon Savage and Timeone. They met up with Mark Rae in 1996, who was setting up the independent record label Grand Central Records and released their debut EP, ''Slow for Focus''. They released another 12", "Through These Veins", which featured Jeru the Damaja's friend Afu-Ra. In 2000, Glenn Reynolds, formerly known as OSC, joined the group. They released their debut album in 2002, which featured guest MCs including Craig G, Jimmy Grand and Dirk Diggla from the U.S., and Wig and Sage from the UK. Blackpool
Blackpool is a seaside resort in Lancashire, England. Located on the northwest coast of England, it is the main settlement within the borough also called Blackpool. An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. Grand Central Records
Grand Central Records was an independent record label based in the Northern Quarter (Manchester), Northern Quarter of Manchester, England. It was started in 1995 by DJ Mark Rae (who, along with Steve Christian makes up the duo Rae & Christian). Rae started out working as manager of the Fat City Records' store (which is now also a record label). The two labels maintained a close relationship, co-hosting club nights including ''Friends and Family''. Grand Central also had a digital sub-label, GC3. As of May 2006, Grand Central Records ceased operating as a record label and the official website was closed down. The label was allegedly investigated by the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society, MCPS with regard to unpaid royalties and the resultant bill was so large that it forced the label into liquidation. Kendrick Jeru Davis (born February 14, 1972), known as Jeru the Damaja, is an American rapper and record producer. He is known for his 1993 single " Come Clean" from his debut album, '' The Sun Rises in the East'', ranked as one of the 100 greatest hip-hop albums of all time by the editors of About.com. He has worked extensively with Guru and DJ Premier of Gang Starr, whom he has known since he was in high school. Aaron Phillip (born January 31, 1974), better known by his stage name Afu-Ra, is an American underground rapper. A member of the Gang Starr Foundation, he has worked closely with its members, including Gang Starr, Jeru the Damaja, Big Shug and Group Home. Career Afu-Ra grew up in Brooklyn, with frequent collaborator Jeru the Damaja. Afu-Ra's first studio appearance was on Jeru's 1994 album '' The Sun Rises in the East'', on the song "Mental Stamina".
