Francisco Hernández De Toledo
Francisco Hernández de Toledo (c. 1515 – 28 January 1587) was a naturalist and court physician to Philip II of Spain. He was among the first wave of Spanish Renaissance physicians practicing according to the revived principles formulated by Hippocrates, Galen and Avicenna. Francisco Hernández was born at La Puebla de Montalbán in the Province of Toledo, probably around 1515. Nothing is known of his parents or other family. His original surname was Fernando which he changed to Hernando in 1570 and then changed again to Hernández, the name he used until his death in 1587. In 1530 he began to study medicine at the University of Alcalá and received a bachelor's degree in 1536. After graduation, Hernández served as physician to the Duke of Maqueda in Toledo and later practiced medicine in Seville where he married Juana Díaz with whom he had two children, Juan Hernández and María of Sotomayor. Francisco Hernández de Córdoba (; in Córdoba – 1517 in Sancti Spíritus) was a Spanish ''conquistador'' from Córdoba, known for the ill-fated expedition he led in 1517, in the course of which the first European accounts of the Yucatán Peninsula were recorded. He died from wounds he suffered during the expedition after battling against Mayan Indians. 1517 Expedition Together with some 110 discontented Spanish settlers in early colonial Cuba, Hernández de Córdoba petitioned the governor, Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar, for permission to launch an expedition in search of new lands and exploitable resources. Francisco Hernández Ramírez (11 July 1949 – 7 January 2019) was a professional football player from Costa Rica. Club career Hernández played during the 70s and 80s with Costa Rica's national team and for Saprissa, winning a total of eight titles with them, including the six consecutive championships won by Saprissa from 1972 to 1977, a record both in Costa Rica as well as in the Americas. His brother, Fernando Hernández, ''El Príncipe'', played for Saprissa too. He retired on 27 November 1983. International career Hernández played 31 matches for Costa Rica and scored 5 goals. Francisco José Hernández, known as "Pepe", (Havana, 1 September 1936) is a Cuban exile of the 1960s, anti- Castro, and Bay of Pigs Invasion participant who is co-founder and president of the Cuban American National Foundation that claims to be taking a less overt position against the Cuban form of government.
