Fausto Dos Santos
Fausto dos Santos (28 January 1905 – 29 March 1939), sometimes known as just Fausto, was a football (soccer) player, considered one of the best defensive midfielders of Vasco da Gama of the first half of past century. At the time, he and Jaguaré, another famous player at this era, was attempted to be loaned to Barcelona. Popularly known as "Fausto, The Black Wonder" he was a pioneer to vindicate labor laws to footballers since the professionalization of Brazilian football in the beginning of the 1930s. He also played for other clubs, such as Bangu, Nacional of Montevideo and Flamengo. He died at the age of 34 of tuberculosis. 1962 FIFA World Cup
The 1962 FIFA World Cup was the 7th edition of the FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial international football championship for senior men's national teams. It was held from 30 May to 17 June 1962 in Chile. The qualification rounds took place between August 1960 and December 1961, with 56 teams entering from six confederations, and fourteen qualifying for the finals tournament alongside Chile, the hosts, and Brazil, the defending champions. Brazil successfully defended their World Cup title, defeating Czechoslovakia 3–1 in the final in the Chilean capital Santiago. They became the second team, after Italy in 1934 and 1938, to win the World Cup twice consecutively; no team has since achieved the feat. 1960 European Nations' Cup
The 1960 European Nations' Cup was the inaugural tournament of the UEFA European Championship, held every four years and organised by UEFA. The first tournament was held in France. It was won by the Soviet Union, who beat Yugoslavia 2–1 in Paris after extra time. The tournament was a knockout competition, with just 17 teams entering. There were some notable absences, including West Germany, Italy, Netherlands and England, each of whom had voted against the creation of the tournament in 1957. The entrants would play home-and-away matches until the semi-finals; the final four teams would then move on to the final tournament, whose host was selected after the teams became known. Football At The 1960 Summer Olympics
The football tournament at the 1960 Summer Olympics was held from 26 August to 10 September in 1960 throughout Italy. The tournament featured 16 men's national teams from four continental confederations. Starting with this edition, the competition's format was changed: rather than a knockout tournament like in the previous Olympic Games, the 16 teams were drawn into four groups of four and each group played a round-robin tournament, in a similar format to that instituted in the 1958 FIFA World Cup, which persists to the present day. At the end of the group stage, the first-ranked teams of each group advanced to the semi-finals, and culminating with the gold medal match in Rome on 10 September 1960. Željko Matuš
Željko Matuš (born 9 August 1935 in Donja Stubica) is a former Croatian-Yugoslavian football (soccer), footballer. He was part of the Yugoslav squad that won gold at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Club career During his club career he played for NK Dinamo Zagreb, SC Young Fellows Juventus, SC Young Fellows and FC Zürich. International career He earned 13 caps for the Yugoslavia national football team, and took part in the 1960 European Nations' Cup and the 1962 FIFA World Cup. He also played a Croatia v Indonesia (1956), friendly match for the Croatia national football team, PR Croatia national team against Indonesia national football team, Indonesia in 1956, in which he scored a goal. His final international was a September 1962 friendly match against West Germany national football team, West Germany. The Football tournament at the 1952 Summer Olympics was won by Hungary. The games signalled the arrival (to Western Europeans at least) of the Hungarian national football team – the "Magical Magyars". Sándor Péter Kocsis (; ; 21 September 1929 – 22 July 1979) was a Hungarian Association football, footballer who played for Ferencvárosi TC, Budapest Honvéd FC, Budapest Honvéd, SC Young Fellows Juventus, Young Fellows Zürich, FC Barcelona and Hungary national football team, Hungary as a Forward (association football)#Striker, striker. During the 1950s, along with Ferenc Puskás, Zoltán Czibor, József Bozsik and Nándor Hidegkuti, he was a member of the Magical Magyars, ''Mighty Magyars''. After the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, he moved to Spain where he became a member of the FC Barcelona team of the late 1950s. Kocsis was a prolific goalscorer for both Budapest Honvéd FC, Budapest Honvéd and Hungary national football team, Hungary. While playing for Honvéd, he was the European Golden Boot, top goalscorer in any European league in both 1952 and 1954. Fernando Giudicelli
Fernando Rubens Pasi Giudicelli – esp. in Brazil often just Fernando – (1 March 1906 in Rio de Janeiro – 28 December 1968 in Rio de Janeiro) was a Brazilian football player. He participated in the World Cup of 1930 and played for clubs in Brazil, Italy, Switzerland, France, Portugal and Spain. He also acted as player agent and instigated a number of moves of players from South America to Europe. He was known for the mariners' cap that he wore when playing. Career Guidicelli was born in Rio de Janeiro. A technically gifted central midfield-player of Italian ancestry, he reportedly commenced his career about 1924 with America FC in the north of Rio de Janeiro, then one of the top clubs of Carioca football.
