Evangelical Lutheran Church In Northern Germany
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany (Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche in Norddeutschland) is a Lutheran member church of the Evangelical Church in Germany (Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland, EKD). It was established on 27 May 2012 as a merger of the North Elbian Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg, and the Pomeranian Evangelical Church. It covers the combined area of all those former member churches, which are the federal states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Nordkirche is the only Landeskirche in Germany which covers parts of both New states of Germany and West Germany. It is also called Nordkirche (North Church). It has 1,892,749 members (31/12/2020). There are 1,704 ordained pastors and more than 84,000 volunteers working for Nordkirche (4/2016). The United Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany (German: Vereinigte Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche Deutschlands, VELKD) was founded on July 8, 1948, in Eisenach, Germany. Its total membership is 8.6 million people. The Member Churches of this organization are in full fellowship with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Rendsburg
Rendsburg ( da, Rendsborg, also ''Rensborg'', nds, Rendsborg, also ''Rensborg'') is a town on the River Eider and the Kiel Canal in the central part of Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. It is the capital of the ''Kreis'' (district) of Rendsburg-Eckernförde. , it had a population of 28,476. Kirsten Fehrs (born September 12, 1961, in Wesselburen) is a Lutheran bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany. Life Fehrs studied Lutheran theology at University of Hamburg. In December 1990 she was ordained as pastor in Hamburg. She worked as pastor of St. James' Church, one of Hamburg's principal churches. Gotthard (or Godehard) (960 – 5 May 1038 AD; la, Gotthardus, Godehardus), also known as ''Gothard'' or ''Godehard the Bishop'', was a German bishop venerated as a saint. Life Gotthard was born in 960 near Niederaltaich in the diocese of Passau. Gotthard studied the humanities and theology at Niederaltaich Abbey, where his father Ratmund was a vassal of the canons. While at the abbey, Gotthard became a canon under Abbot Erkanbert. Gotthard then continued his studies at the archiepiscopal court of Salzburg, where he served as an ecclesiastical administrator. After traveling through various countries, including Italy, Gotthard completed his advanced studies under the guidance of Liutfrid in the cathedral school at Passau. Kristina Kühnbaum-Schmidt (born 1964) is a German Lutheran bishop. Biography Kühnbaum-Schmidt was born in Braunschweig. She studied Lutheran evangelical theology at University of Göttingen and at Kirchliche Hochschule Berlin. She was ordained in Braunschweig in 1995, and served as a pastor of the parish of Wichern and in the Propstei pastorate for public relations. From 2009, Kühnbaum-Schmidt also worked as a pastoral psychological consultant and supervisor for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig and as a lecturer for pastoral care.
