Enoggera Barracks
Enoggera Barracks (also known as Gallipoli Barracks) is an Australian Army base in the northwestern Brisbane suburb of Enoggera in Queensland, Australia. It was officially established in the early 20th century when the area was used for field training, although the area was used by military units as far back as the mid-19th century. Since then it has been developed into a modern military base, which is now home to units of the 7th and 11th Brigades as well as the headquarters of the 1st Division and the 16th Aviation Brigade. History The base has a long history, having been in existence officially since 1908, although the wider area has been used for military purposes since 1855. Enoggera Reservoir is an outer north-western suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Enoggera Reservoir had a population of 25 people. Geography The suburbs borders Moreton Bay Region to the north. It contains the neighbourhood of Peewee Bend (). History The Enoggera Reservoir suburb is named after the Enoggera Dam. The name ''Enoggera'' is a corruption of the Yuggera word ''yauar-ngari'' meaning '' corroboree ground''. The suburb was officially named and bounded on 15 December 1990. As of 12 February 2011, sufficient water inflows returned the reservoir to usable levels, and water is now used to supply neighbouring suburbs. Prior to this the reservoir levels were insufficient for water supply, primarily due to the drought which was experienced by South-East Queensland prior to the January 2011 floods. Enoggera Dam
The Enoggera Dam is a heritage-listed dam, which is located within the outer, western suburb of Enoggera Reservoir, in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. History The Enoggera Dam was constructed in 1866, on the upper reach of Breakfast Creek (which section was later renamed Enoggera Creek). It was the first major dam built in Queensland and the second major dam built in Australia (the first major dam, Yan Yean Reservoir having been built in Victoria in 1850). It is rare as one of the few remaining examples in Queensland of an intact and functioning reservoir and treatment plant from this period in time. The clay-cored earth-fill dam was designed and built by Joseph Brady. Water supply problems plagued Brisbane's early years. Enoggera Creek is a creek which flows through the City of Brisbane in South-East Queensland, Australia. Geography Enoggera Creek rises in the suburb of Enoggera Reservoir on the D'Aguilar Range and flows into the Brisbane River (becoming Breakfast Creek in the final stage). The creek's headwaters form on the southern slopes of Mount Nebo in Brisbane Forest Park. Within the suburb of Enoggera Reservoir, the creek is dammed by Enoggera Dam ( (). Shire Of Enoggera
The Shire of Enoggera is a former local government area of Queensland, Australia, located in north-western Brisbane. History Ithaca Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879''. It comprised 3 subdivisions. By 1886, the residents of subdivision 1 were petitioning to separate and become the Shire of Windsor, resulting in the establishment of the Shire of Windsor on 11 February 1887. Meanwhile, the residents of subdivision 2 were petitioning to separate and become the Shire of Ithaca, resulting in the creation of the Shire of Ithaca on 18 August 1887. The now much depleted Ithaca Division then requested to be renamed the Enoggera Division and this occurred on 28 March 1888. The ''Local Authorities Act 1902'' replaced divisions with shires and towns. As a result, on 31 March 1903, the Enoggera Division became the Shire of Enoggera.
