Erzsi Máthé
Erzsi Máthé (born Erzsébet Mertz; 16 May 1927 – 8 May 2023) was a Hungarian stage, film and television actress. Life and career Born in Budafok into a family of Swabian origins, Máthé made her acting debut in 1945 in a local amateur theatre company, and then she enrolled at the National Actors' Association's School of Acting, graduating in 1948. She adopted her stage name in 1949. Mainly active on stage, for over three decades she was a member of the National Theatre of Pécs stage company, and in 1983 she co-founded the Katona József Theater in Budapest. Budafok
Budafok (; literally "Promontory near Buda, or Buda Point") is a neighbourhood in Budapest, Hungary. It is situated in the southwestern part of Buda, near the Danube, and belongs to District XXII. Budafok was an independent municipality before 1950. The village was known for wine and champagne making. Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663-1736) constructed a palace between its vineyards, the Promontor palace. Name Budafok was for many years known as ‘Promontor’ from the Latin ''Promontorium'', meaning headland, but in 1886, the name was changed to its Hungarian equivalent, ''Budafok'', meaning ‘Buda cape’. Swabians ( , singular ''Schwabe'') are a Germans, German ethnographic group native to the region of Swabia, which is mostly divided between the modern states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria, in southwestern Germany. National Theatre Of Pécs
The National Theatre of Pécs is the main theatre of Pécs, Hungary. History Theatrical plays became a regular attraction in the city from the beginning of the 19th century in German and Hungarian language. Most often they were arranged in larger dancing halls, inns, the small stage of Tettye or the Elefánt-house Inn. While being continuously planned from 1815 onwards, the first theatre opened only in 1840 in the Mária street. Demolished in 1890, only a sketch of the facade remained from this building. To meet the demand for a high-quality structure, the city council set up a committee, led by mayor János Aidinger to coordinate the planning. The design competition of 1890 was won by Adolf Lang and Adolf Steinhardt, who, in cooperation with the renowned Fellner-Helmer duo, and 10 000 Ft granted by the county council, started the construction. The Kossuth Prize (, ) is a state-sponsored award in Hungary, named after the Hungarian politician and revolutionist Lajos Kossuth.
