Enschede Fireworks Disaster
The Enschede fireworks disaster was a catastrophic fireworks explosion on 13 May 2000 in Enschede, Netherlands. The explosion killed 23 people including four firefighters and injured 950 others. A total of 400 homes were destroyed and 1,500 buildings were subsequently damaged. The first explosion had a strength in the order of , while the strength of the final explosion was in the range of . The biggest blast was felt as far as the city of Deventer, away. Fire crews were called in from across the border in Germany to help battle the blaze; it was brought under control by the end of the day. S.E. Fireworks was a major supplier to Pop music, pop concerts and major festive events in the Netherlands. Prior to the disaster it had a good safety record and had passed all safety audits. Boekelo
Boekelo () is a village in the municipality of Enschede in the eastern Netherlands, the population is estimated at approximately 2,500. It is located just west of Usselo. The village is known for the Military Boekelo Enschede, an international equestrian event. It is also known for the salt industry, since 1919 located south of the village. This was a reason for the then well-known '' Bad Boekelo'' (Bath Boekelo) to have a salt water wave pool. Demolition (also known as razing and wrecking) is the science and engineering in safely and efficiently tearing down buildings and other artificial structures. Koninklijke Grolsch N.V. (; "Royal Grolsch"), known simply as Grolsch, is a Dutch brewery founded in 1615 by Willem Neerfeldt in Groenlo. In 1895, the Family de Groen, de Groen family bought the brewery. They had started their own brewery in Enschede in the early 19th century and held a significant stake until 2007. The guilder (, ) or florin was the currency of the Netherlands from 1434 until 2002, when it was replaced by the euro.
