Elitserien (speedway)
Elitserien (literally, "The Elite Series") () is the highest league in the league system of speedway in Sweden and currently comprises the top eight Swedish speedway teams. The first season began in 1982. Before that Allsvenskan was the highest division. The winner of the Elitserien is crowned the Swedish Speedway Team Championship winner. 2024 Clubs History From the start of Swedish league speedway in 1948 until 1981 the highest speedway league in Sweden was called Division 1. In 1982 Elitserien was formed, consisting of only six teams where the top four teams qualified for the playoffs. Getingarna became the first winners after defeating Njudungarna in the finals. The league size was increased to seven teams in 1983 and to eight teams in 1984, a league size that was maintained until the 1996 season when the league expanded to nine teams and then to ten teams the following season. Motorcycle Speedway
Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four clockwise, anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. The motorcycles are specialist machines that use only one gear and have no brakes. Racing takes place on a flat oval track usually consisting of soil, dirt, loosely packed shale, or crushed rock (mostly used in Australia and New Zealand). Competitors use this surface to slide their machines sideways, powersliding or broadsiding into the bends. On the straight sections of the track, the motorcycles reach speeds of up to . Södermanland County
Södermanland County (, ) is a Counties of Sweden, county or ''län'' on the southeast coast of Sweden. Smederna is a motorcycle speedway club based in Eskilstuna, Sweden. The club competes in the highest speedway league in Sweden called the Elitserien (speedway), Elitserien and race its home matches at Smedstadion, Eskilstuna motorstadion outside Eskilstuna. Smederna has won six Swedish Speedway Team Championships. Credentia Arena
The Hisstech AB Arena, formerly the Credentia Arena for sponsorship purposes is a 10,000-capacity Motorcycle speedway and Ice speedway stadium in Hallstavik, Sweden. At the venue there is also an 80cc track inside the larger track and an adjacent BMX track. History The origins of the track started with a team called Orion, who first raced at Folkets Park on 15 April 1934. Orion raced intermittently over the next five decades, in which time they purchased the track and buildings. In 1978, the team changed its name to Rospiggarna and the stadium was known as the Orionparken. In 2010, Rospiggarna and MK Orion split and the stadium became known as Parken. Rospiggarna is a motorcycle speedway team based in Hallstavik, Sweden. They ride in the Elitserien are five times champions of Sweden. History 1930 to 1977 The club was founded in 1930 and were named Orion, although it did not compete in the Swedish speedway leagues until 1966. The club joined the Swedish Division three in 1966 and the team name was changed to Stjärnorna (English: The Stars). They competed in the lower leagues of the Swedish league system as Stjärnorna until 1978. 1978 to 1993 In 1978, the name was changed again to Rospiggarna which is the demonym for people from Roslagen, where Hallstavik is situated. Motala Arena
Motala Arena or Autoexperten Arena for sponsorship purposes is a motorcycle speedway track located in the southern outskirts of Motala. The track is on the Vinnerstadsvägen road and forms part of the Dunteberget Motorstadion, which includes motocross and a smaller speedway track inside the standard track. The stadium hosts the Piraterna speedway team that compete in the Swedish Speedway Team Championship and have been champions of Sweden on two occasions. Motala () is a Urban areas in Sweden, locality and the seat of Motala Municipality, Östergötland County, Sweden with a municipal population of 43,717 inhabitants in 2024.
