El Silencio, Costa Rica
El Silencio is a village and nature park in the Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica, in the hills overlooking the west shore of Lake Arenal. It is a very good tropical forest area for viewing birds and monkeys, and also contains the active Arenal Volcano. It has several kilometres of trails for hiking and photography. The entrance fee (as of March, 2010) is $14 USD per day. Guanacaste Province
Guanacaste () is a province of Costa Rica located in the northwestern region of the country, along the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It is bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Alajuela Province to the east, and Puntarenas Province to the southeast. It is the most sparsely populated of all the provinces of Costa Rica. Cantons Of Costa Rica
Costa Rica is administratively divided into seven provinces which are subdivided into 83 cantons, and these are further subdivided into districts. Cantons are the only administrative division in Costa Rica that possess local government in the form of municipalities. Each municipality has its own mayor and several representatives, all of them chosen via municipal elections every four years. The original 14 cantons were established in 1848, and the number has risen gradually by the division of existing cantons. Lake Arenal
Lake Arenal ( es, Lago Arenal) is a lake which is situated in the northern highlands of Costa Rica. It is currently the largest lake in Costa Rica at . Its depth varies between 30 and 60 meters (100–200 feet) seasonally. The town of Arenal was relocated to higher ground when the lake was expanded in 1979. The old towns of Arenal and Tronadora now lie abandoned at the bottom of the lake, with the new town of Arenal existing to the northeast on the lake. Tilarán
Tilarán is a small town and a district in Guanacaste Province in Costa Rica. It is the seat of the Tilarán Canton located in the hills overlooking the west shore of Lake Arenal. It is connected by road to El Silencio, and by the 142 road down through the Cordillera de Tilarán hills to Tejona. The area between Tilaran and Tejona is one of the most important wind farms in Costa Rica and turbines are prominent on the landscape. Tejona is a village in the Guanacaste Province, Costa Rica. It is located on Lake Arenal and has a hydroelectric power station.
