Eger (Tisza)
Eger (; "Eger Stream") is the longest watercourse in and around the city Eger in Hungary. From the area by the village of Balaton, by the Vajda well, the stream flows through the valley of Eger between the Bükk and Mátra mountains. After 68 kilometers in a south-easterly direction, the stream empties into Lake Tisza (Tisza) from the right side. The length of the main branch is about 40 kilometers. Almost the entire area of the districts of Eger District, Eger and Bélapátfalva District, Bélapátfalva lies in the catchment area of the watercourse, therefore it is a crucial component in the hydrography of the region. The stream is part of the Eger–Laskó–Csincse water system. The stream is known by the name Rima (''Rima-patak'') in the lower reaches, downstream from the village of Nagytálya. Eger
Eger ( , ; ; also known by other #Names and etymology, alternative names) is the county seat of Heves County, and the second largest city in Northern Hungary (after Miskolc). A city with county rights, Eger is best known for Castle of Eger, its medieval castle, Turkish bath, thermal baths, baroque buildings, the northernmost Eger minaret, Ottoman minaret, and red wines. Its population of around 53,000 (2017) makes it the 19th largest centre of population in Hungary, according to the census. Lake Tisza
Lake Tisza (), also known as Kisköre Reservoir (Hungarian: ''Kiskörei-víztározó''), is the largest artificial lake in Hungary. It is located at the southeastern edge of Heves county, next to counties Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Hajdú-Bihar and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok. As part of the ongoing Tisza River flood control project, the Tisza Dam was built in 1973. Its filling was finished in the 1990s, resulting in a 127 km2 lake. The lake is 27 km in length, with an average depth of 1.3 m and a maximum depth of 17 m; it contains 43 km2 of small islands. Following the reservoir's completion, Hungarians began to flock to the site for holidays, since it compared favourably with the crowded and expensive Lake Balaton, the traditional holiday site. Mátra
The Mátra () is a mountain range in northern Hungary, between the towns Gyöngyös and Eger. The country's highest peak, Kékestető (1014 m), belongs to this mountain range. Formation Pre-volcanic formations The formation of the Mátra is closely related to the formation of the North Hungarian Mountains and the Carpathians. Formations formed before the volcanism in the Miocene, are located primarily on the steep northern side of the Mátra. The reason for this is, that after the volcanism, the entire mountain range tilted southward due to the subsidence of the trench extending south of the Mátra and Bükk. The southern, more gentle part was buried by young sediments, while on the northern side steep slopes were formed by landslides during the Pleistocene.
