Eastport–Kingsgate Border Crossing
The Eastport–Kingsgate Border Crossing connects the town of Bonners Ferry, Idaho with Yahk, British Columbia on the Canada–US border. U.S. Route 95 on the American side joins British Columbia Highway 95 on the Canadian side. Canadian side From the junction with the Canadian Pacific Railway at Yahk, the rail head of the Spokane International Railroad (SI) reached the border in November 1905. Two months earlier, a Canadian customs office opened across the border at Eastport. In July 1906, an office opened at Kingsgate, under the administrative oversight of the Port of Nelson. In 1909, the Port of Cranbrook assumed oversight. In 1948, the status was upgraded to Port of Kingsgate. In 1961, 24-hour service began. The depression-era wooden border station was replaced with a brick border station in 1953. This was replaced with the current concrete and steel structure in 2012. Yahk is an unincorporated hamlet in southeastern British Columbia, Canada, just north of the Canada-U.S. border. Yahk Provincial Park borders the village to the south. British Columbia Highway 95
Highway 95 is a north-south highway in the southeastern corner of British Columbia, opened in 1957. The highway connects with U.S. Route 95, from which the highway takes its number, at the Canada–U.S. border at Kingsgate, just north of Eastport, Idaho. Spokane International Railroad
The Spokane International Railroad was a short line railroad between Spokane, Washington, and the Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) at Kingsgate, British Columbia. The line became an important one for the CP with its connections to the Union Pacific Railroad and Portland, Oregon. The line, originally named the Spokane International Railway, was built by local businessman and railroader Daniel Chase Corbin following an agreement between him and the CP, with CP agreeing to fund much of the line's construction and to secure the loan by holding the new line's bonds. Especially significant was that the CP controlled the Minneapolis, St. Paul and Sault Ste.
