Dooen, Victoria
Dooen is a locality situated in the Wimmera region, Western Victoria, Australia. The Henty Highway between Mildura and Portland passes through the Dooen. At the 2021 census, Dooen had a population of 250. Dooen Post Office opened on 1 September 1877 and closed in 1982. The Old Dooen pub is one of the few remaining occupied buildings and is popular amongst the agricultural students of Longerenong College. The Dooen School closed in 1994, the Dooen Hall is all that remains on the site. Communications The ABC Western Victoria transmitter at Dooen, named 594 3WV, was built in 1936. The mast is 201 metres tall and the transmitter generates 50 kilowatts of power, with only 13 other more powerful broadcast towers in Australia. The lattice work at the top of the mast is 19 metres in diameter. Electoral District Of Lowan
The electoral district of Lowan is a rural Victorian Legislative Assembly (Lower House) electoral district of the Victorian Parliament. It is located within the Western Victoria Region of the Legislative Council. It was initially created by ''The Electoral Act Amendment Act 1888'', taking effect at the 1889 elections. It is the state’s biggest electorate by area, covering about 41,858 km². Lowan includes the country towns of Casterton, Coleraine, Dartmoor, Dimboola, Hamilton, Horsham, Jeparit, Kaniva, Nhill and Rainbow. Western Standard Gauge Line
The Western standard gauge railway line is a standard-gauge railway line in western Victoria, Australia. Completed in 1995, it forms part of the Melbourne–Adelaide rail corridor and serves as the principal interstate rail link between Victoria and the western states. The line replaced a number of former broad gauge routes which were gauge converted, and today sees both intrastate and interstate freight traffic, as well as the twice weekly (in each direction) ''The Overland'' passenger service. Longerenong College, often abbreviated ''Longy'', is an agricultural college in western-Victoria near the city of Horsham, Victoria. The focus of study at the College is "agronomy, rural merchandise management, wool classing, agricultural education, farm management, research and livestock sales." The College is based around a residential campus in the locality of Longerenong. The college includes a 1070 hectare farm "with cropping, sheep and beef cattle enterprises." History The college was founded in 1889 by the Council of Agricultural Education. Enrolments however were not sustained and the college was closed from 1898 to 1905, although the farm remained operational during that period. Henty Highway
Henty Highway is a rural highway in western Victoria, Australia, linking Lascelles in the Wimmera region, to Portland on the state's south-western coast.
