Doctor González is a municipality and town located in the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León. It has a territorial extension of 701.8 km2. The municipal seat has 404 metres above sea level. The municipality is located 48 km northeastwards Monterrey. The municipality was named in honor of José Eleuterio González. Geography It borders with the municipalities of Higueras and Cerralvo to north, Pesquería and Los Ramones to south, Cerralvo to west, and Marín to west. José Eleuterio González
José Eleuterio González Mendoza (20 February 1813, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico – 4 April 1888), was a Mexican physician and philanthropist, founder of the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) and the Hospital Universitario José Eleuterio González. His father was Matías Gonzalez, an officer of the Royalist Army and his mother was Josefa Mendoza de Gonzalez. Education When Gonzalez Mendoza was 5 years old his father was killed in the Mexican Independence War. He was sent to live with one of his maternal uncles who agreed to educate him until his 12th birthday. Higueras is a municipality in Nuevo León, Mexico. It has an area of 600.2 square kilometers.
