Monterrey (, , abbreviated as MtY) is the capital and largest city of the northeastern Mexican state of Nuevo León. It is the ninth-largest city and the second largest metropolitan area, after Greater Mexico City. Located at the foothills of the Sierra Madre Oriental, Monterrey is a major business and industrial hub in North America. Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITESM; ), also known as Technological Institute of Monterrey () or just Tec, is aresearch university based in Monterrey, Mexico, which has grown to include 35 campuses located across 25 cities in the country and 22 liaison offices in other 15 countries. Arena Monterrey is an indoor arena in Monterrey, Mexico. It is primarily used for shows, concerts and indoor sports like indoor soccer, arena football and basketball. It used to be the home arena of the Monterrey Fury indoor soccer team and the Fuerza Regia, a professional basketball team in the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional; the Monterrey La Raza, a team in the NISL; and the Monterrey Steel, an indoor American football team in the National Arena League. Adrián Emilio de la Garza Santos (born 17 September 1971) is a Mexican lawyer and politician who serves as the municipal president of Monterrey since 2024. Diego de Montemayor ( – 1611) was a Spanish conquistador, explorer, officer, and the governor of Nuevo Reino de León. Early life Historians dispute his date of birth, place of birth, and the identity of his parents. Monterrey Cathedral
The Metropolitan Cathedral of Our Lady of Monterrey () also Monterrey Cathedral is the main Catholic church and home of the Archdiocese of Monterrey. It is located in the capital of the state of Nuevo León in Mexico. The building has a central nave in the shape of a Latin cross flanked by niches chapels. The ship has arched vaults topped with an octagonal dome. The interior is sober and eclectic. It has a mix of architectural styles, neoclassical and baroque, the latter especially on its façade. The chapel of the tabernacle features an embossed silver front. In the choir there is a Merklin organ from 1893 (currently damaged and not in use). Faro del Comercio is a monument designed by the accomplished Mexican architect Luis Barragán and constructed in 1984 by architect Raúl Ferrera. The Monterrey Foundry (In Spanish: ''Fundidora de Fierro y Acero de Monterrey, S.A.)'' was a Mexican iron and steel foundry founded in 1900 in the city of Monterrey, becoming the first such foundry in Latin America and, for many years, the most important one in the region.
