Diesel 2000
Diesel 2000 is an FIA circuit racing classification for modified production based touring cars using turbodiesel engines. Like its counterpart, Super 2000, the category is open to large-scale series production touring cars modified by a kit. Cars must have at least four seats and at least 2500 fully identical units must be produced within 12 consecutive months to allow homologation. However, unlike Super 2000, Diesel 2000 allows only 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines with a maximum capacity of 2000cc. The category was introduced to the European Touring Car Championship for 2004 to allow turbodiesel cars to compete alongside the existing petrol engined Super 2000 vehicles. When the European Championship was upgraded to become the World Touring Car Championship in 2005, both Diesel 2000 and Super 2000 cars were eligible to compete for the new title. Super 2000
Super 2000 is an Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA powertrain specification used in the World Rally Championship, the British Touring Car Championship, the World Touring Car Championship, and other touring car racing, touring car championships. The engines were originally 2 L naturally aspirated, and later 1.6 L turbocharged units were allowed producing approximately 280 bhp. The goal of the Super 2000 classification is to allow more manufacturers and privateers to race by reducing the cost of a competitive car. In order to cut costs and shorten development time, the Super 2000 rally cars originally used a common control gearbox and drivetrain made by the French company, Sadev. The FIA has since announced that Xtrac Limited, Xtrac and Ricardo Consulting Engineers will be allowed to also manufacture S2000 gearboxes to FIA specification. The FIA World Touring Car Championship was an international touring car championship promoted by Eurosport Events and sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). It has had several different incarnations, including a single season in 1987 as the World Touring Car Championship and most recently a world championship (WTCC) that has run between 2005 and 2017. The 2008 World Touring Car Championship was a motor racing competition for Super 2000, Super 2000 Cars and Diesel 2000, Diesel 2000 Cars. Organised by the FIA, it comprised the FIA World Touring Car Championship for Drivers and the FIA World Touring Car Championship for Manufacturers. The championship began on 2 March, and ended on 16 November, after twenty-four races. It was the fifth World Touring Car Championship and the fourth since its 2005 return. Frenchman Yvan Muller won the Drivers title by 26 points from SEAT team-mate Gabriele Tarquini, with Chevrolet's Rob Huff, Robert Huff finishing third just a point behind Tarquini. The 2009 World Touring Car Championship season was the sixth Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, FIA World Touring Car Championship season, the fifth since its 2005 return. It began on 8 March, and ended on 22 November, after twenty-four races. The championship, which was reserved for Super 2000, Super 2000 Cars and Diesel 2000 Cars, comprised two titles, the FIA World Touring Car Champion for Drivers and the FIA World Touring Car Champion for Manufacturers. Italian Gabriele Tarquini won the Drivers' Championship by four points from SEAT Sport team-mate Yvan Muller, with Schnitzer Motorsport, BMW Team Germany's Augusto Farfus finishing third ten points behind Muller. Gabriele Tarquini (born 2 March 1962) is an Italian former racing driver, who competed in Formula One between and , and World Touring Car from to 2021. In touring car racing, Tarquini won the World Touring Car Championship in with SEAT; he also won the British Touring Car Championship in 1994, the European Touring Car Championship in 2003, and the World Touring Car Cup in 2018. Touring Car Racing
Touring car racing is a motorsport road racing competition that uses race-prepared touring cars. It has both similarities to and significant differences from stock car racing, which is popular in the United States. While the cars do not move as fast as those in Formula racing, formula or sports car racing, sports car races, their similarity both to one another and to fans' own vehicles makes for well-supported racing.
