Deidré Baartman
Deidré Maudelene Baartman (born 7 February 1991) is a South African politician who is serving as the Western Cape's Provincial Minister of Finance since June 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA), she has been a member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2019. She previously served as the Deputy Chief Whip of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament and the Chairperson of both the Budget Committee and the Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Opportunities and Tourism. Life and career Baartman obtained her LLB and LLM (Public Procurement Law) from the University of Stellenbosch. She was admitted as an advocate of the Western Cape High Court in 2017. Executive Council Of The Western Cape
The Executive Council of the Western Cape is the cabinet of the executive branch of the provincial government in the South African province of the Western Cape. The Members of the Executive Council (MECs) are appointed from among the members of the Western Cape Provincial Legislature by the Premier of the Western Cape, an office held since the 2019 general election by Alan Winde. Alan Winde
Alan Richard Winde (born 18 March 1965) is a South African politician and businessman. He is the 8th and current Premier of the Western Cape, having held the position since 2019. He has been a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since 1999 and belongs to the Democratic Alliance. Born in Knysna, Winde attended Knysna High School. He established small businesses in his hometown. He started his political career as a municipal and district councillor in the early 1990s. Shortly afterwards in 1999, he was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament. He has held various leadership positions in the Democratic Alliance provincial parliament caucus. Mireille Wenger
Mireille Mary Wenger (born 1 June 1980) is a South African politician who is serving as the Western Cape Provincial Minister of Health and Wellness since June 2024. A member of the Democratic Alliance (DA), she has been a Member of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament since May 2014. She previously served as the DA's Chief Whip from 2019 to 2022 and Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities from 2022 to 2024. 2024 Western Cape Provincial Election
The 2024 Western Cape provincial election was held on 29 May 2024, concurrently with the 2024 South African general election, to elect the 42 members of the List of members of the 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament, 7th Western Cape Provincial Parliament. Background The previous provincial election was won by the ruling Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA), but with a reduced majority of 55.45%, down from 59.38% in the 2014 election. The party lost two seats and achieved a majority of 24 seats in the legislature. The Official Opposition African National Congress (ANC) declined from 32.89% to 28.64%, and also lost two seats.
