John Steenhuisen
John Henry Steenhuisen ( ; born 25 March 1976) is a South African politician who is currently serving as Minister of Agriculture (South Africa), Minister of Agriculture since July 2024. He has been the leader of the Democratic Alliance (South Africa), Democratic Alliance (DA) since November 2020, having served as the interim leader for one year from November 2019. He served as the 20th Leader of the Opposition (South Africa), leader of the Opposition from October 2019 to June 2024. Pursuant to the 2024 South African general election, he was appointed to the Third Cabinet of Cyril Ramaphosa, third cabinet of Cyril Ramaphosa when the DA joined the Third Cabinet of Cyril Ramaphosa, Government of National Unity (GNU). The Province of Natal (), commonly called Natal, was a province of South Africa from May 1910 until May 1994. Its capital was Pietermaritzburg. The Democratic Party (DP; ) was a South African political party that was the forerunner of the Democratic Alliance. Although the Democratic Party name dates from 1989, the party existed under other labels throughout the apartheid years, when it was the Parliamentary opposition to the ruling National Party's policies.
