The Deaflympics, also known as Deaflympiad (previously called World Games for the Deaf, and International Games for the Deaf) are a periodic series of multi-sport events sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at which deaf athletes compete at an elite level. 2024 Winter Deaflympics
The 2023 Winter Deaflympics, officially known as the 20th Winter Deaflympics or XX Winter Deaflympics, was the 20th edition of the Winter Deaflympics, and took place between 2–12 March 2024 in Erzurum in Turkey. The multi-sport event was originally planned to be held in 2023, but the event was pushed towards the early part of March 2024 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2023 edition of the Winter Deaflympics was the third largest international sporting event to be held in Erzurum after the city had previously hosted the 2011 Winter Universiade and 2017 European Youth Olympic Winter Festival. United States, Sweden, Canada and Finland withdrawn to send their delegations to the games due to security concerns and geopolitical tensions surrounding West Asia. 2025 Summer Deaflympics
The 2025 Summer Deaflympics, officially known as the 25th Summer Deaflympics or XXV Summer Deaflympics, is an international multi-sport event that is scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan from 15 November 2025 to 26 November 2025. The multi-sport event would also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Deaflympics, as the inaugural edition was kicked off in 1924. This will be the first instance where Japan will be hosting the Summer Deaflympics in the history of the competition, and it will mark the return of another Olympic-styled multi-sport event in Japan since the beginning of the 2020's after the Pacific nation staged both the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics. 1924 Summer Deaflympics
The First International Silent Games (), or First International Games for the Deaf (), now referred to retroactively as the 1924 Summer Deaflympics (), were the inaugural edition of the Deaflympics. The Games were held in Paris, France, from 10 to 17 August 1924, as an equivalent to the Olympic Games for deaf athletes. They were organised on the initiative of deaf Frenchman Eugène Rubens-Alcais, who, just after the Games, co-founded the Comité International des Sports des Sourds with other "deaf sporting leaders". (Rubens-Alcais had previously founded France's first sports federation for the deaf and mute, in 1918.) Comité International Des Sports Des Sourds
The International Committee of Sports for the Deaf is the apex body organizing international sports events for the deaf, particularly the Deaflympics (previously called World Games for the Deaf). It is also called the Comité International des Sports des Sourds (CISS). The organization was founded in Paris by Eugène Rubens-Alcais, who organized the 1924 Summer Deaflympics, first "International Silent Games" in 1924. Alcais was himself deaf and was the president of the French Deaf Sports Federation. CISS, now also called ICSD, is headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. Multi-sport Event
A multi-sport event is an organized sporting event, often held over multiple days, featuring competition in many different sports among organized teams of athletes from (mostly) nation-states. The first major, modern, multi-sport event of international significance was the Olympic Games, first held in modern times in 1896 in Athens, Greece, and inspired by the Ancient Olympic Games, one of a number of such events held in antiquity. Erzurum

The Paralympic Games or Paralympics is a periodic series of international multisport events involving athletes with a range of disabilities. There are Winter and Summer Paralympic Games, which since the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, have been held shortly after the corresponding Olympic Games. All Paralympic Games are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The Paralympics began as a small gathering of British World War II veterans in 1948. The 1960 Games in Rome drew 400 athletes with disabilities from 23 countries, as proposed by doctor Antonio Maglio. Special Olympics is the world's largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and activities to 5 million participants and Unified Sports partners in 172 countries. Special Olympics competitions are held daily, all around the world—including local, national and regional competitions, adding up to more than 100,000 events a year.
