Date Records
Date Records was a sub-label of Columbia Records which had two different incarnations. The first incarnation was a short-lived rockabilly label in 1958 which included a release by Billy "Crash" Craddock. The more significant incarnation was relaunched in February 1966 by industry executive Tom Noonan. The label was relaunched to promote Columbia's acquired and independently produced recordings as opposed to Columbia's in-house productions. The most successful acts on the Date label were Peaches & Herb and the Zombies. The label was dissolved in 1970, except for one more single ("I'll Close the Door Behind Me" by the Pooh, an English-language version of " Tanta Voglia Di Lei") that was released in early 1972. Rockabilly
Rockabilly is one of the earliest styles of rock and roll music. It dates back to the early 1950s in the United States, especially the Southern United States, South. As a genre, it blends the sound of Western music (North America), Western musical styles such as country music, country with that of rhythm and blues, leading to what is considered "classic" rock and roll. Some have also described it as a blend of bluegrass music, bluegrass with rock and roll. Billy "Crash" Craddock
Billy Wayne "Crash" Craddock (born June 16, 1939) is an American country and rockabilly singer. He first gained popularity in Australia in the 1950s with a string of rockabilly hits, including the Australian number one hits " Boom Boom Baby" and "One Last Kiss" in 1960 and 1961 respectively. Switching to country music, he gained popularity in the United States in the 1970s with a string of top ten country hits, several of which were number one hits, including "Rub It In", " Broken Down in Tiny Pieces", and " Ruby Baby". Craddock is known to his fans as "The King Of Country Rock Music" and "Mr. Country Rock" for his uptempo rock-influenced style of country music. Peaches & Herb is an American vocal duo. Herb Fame (born October 1, 1941) has remained a constant as "Herb" since the duo was created in 1966; seven different women have filled the role of "Peaches", most notably Francine Edna "Peaches" Hurd Barker (April 28, 1947 – August 13, 2005), the original "Peaches" who lent her nickname to the duo, and Linda Greene Tavani, the third "Peaches", who appeared on the duo's biggest hits " Shake Your Groove Thing" (1978) and " Reunited" (1979). The Zombies
The Zombies are an English Rock music, rock band formed in St Albans in 1961. Led by keyboardist/vocalist Rod Argent and lead vocalist Colin Blunstone, the group had their first British and American hit in 1964 with "She's Not There". In the US, two further singles—"Tell Her No" in 1965 and "Time of the Season" in 1968—were also successful. Pooh is an Italian Pop music, pop band formed in Bologna in 1966. Some of the band's most popular songs include "Parsifal", "Dove comincia il sole" and "Pensiero (song), Pensiero". "Tanta voglia di lei" ('So much longing for her') is a 1971 song composed by Roby Facchinetti and Valerio Negrini and performed by the Italian musical group Pooh. Background The song had a troubled production, with various lyrics being tested and dismissed, including a version titled "La mia croce è lei" ('My cross is her') with lyrics by Daniele Pace. Also, CBS initially preferred the B-side "Tutto alle tre" as A-side. Release The single was released on 28 April 1971. Legacy Recordings is an American record label that is a division of Sony Music. Formed in 1990 after Sony's acquisition of CBS Records, Legacy originally handled the archives of Sony Music-owned labels Columbia Records and Epic Records. In 2004, under the Sony BMG joint venture, the label began to manage the archives of RCA Records, J Records, Windham Hill Records, Arista, LaFace, Jive, and Buddah Records.
