German Youth Power Sports Association (, DJK) is a Catholic Church, Catholic-sponsored sports association in Germany. Founded as a faith-based organization, today it is open to anyone who supports its goals. The concept of Jugendkraft or "youth power" is common to many countries and cultures, as in the Italian ''Juventus'', and conveys the positive aspects of youthful energy and creativity. History The DJK was established in Würzburg in 1920 under the leadership of Monsignor Carl Mostert and was active nationally until 1933 and the rise to power of the Nazis. Faith-based and worker's organizations were regarded as politically unpalatable by the regime and DFK-affiliated clubs were at that time dissolved or forced into mergers with mainstream clubs. On 1 July 1934, DJK head Adalbert Probst was arrested by the Gestapo before being shot the next day. By early 1935, the DJK and similar organizations were banned outright. Deutsche Jugendkraft Würzburg, commonly known as DJK Würzburg, is a German sports club. It is most known for its basketball section, which in the past had a professional team. Its best known former player is Dirk Nowitzki. Currently, the sports club contains around 3,000 amateur players. History The DJK Sport Association was founded on September 16, 1920 in Würzburg. Due to the geographic location of its home office, the DJK soon founded a local club in Würzburg. However, the different athletic departments found themselves divided among various Catholic clubs. DJK Abenberg is a German sports club from the town of Abenberg, Bavaria. It has departments for football, gymnastics, handball, bowling, athletics, skiing, tennis, walking, and hiking. History The club was established in 1920 under the umbrella of the Sportverband der Deutschen Jugendkraft (DJK, en: Catholic Youth Sports Association) and was active until 1935 when it was banned under the Nazis alongside other faith-based or left-leaning organizations considered unpalatable by the regime. Derrell Johnson-Koulianos (born February 24, 1987) and sometimes nicknamed DJK, is an American football player and was a wide receiver for the Iowa Hawkeyes during the 2007-2010 seasons. During the 2007 season, Johnson-Koulianos caught 38 passes for 482 yards and two touchdowns. In 2008, he caught 44 passes for 639 yards and 3 touchdowns.
