Curaçao, officially the Country of Curaçao, is a constituent island country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located in the southern Caribbean Sea (specifically the Dutch Caribbean region), about north of Venezuela. Curaçao includes the main island of Curaçao and the much smaller, uninhabited island of Klein Curaçao ("Little Curaçao"). Curaçao has a population of 158,665 (January 2019 estimate), with an area of ; its capital is Willemstad. Together with Aruba and Bonaire, Curaçao forms the ABC islands (Leeward Antilles), ABC islands. Gilmar Pisas
Gilmar Simon Pisas (born 28 October 1971) is a Curaçaoan politician and the prime minister of Curaçao, serving since 14 June 2021. He previously served as prime minister between 24 March 2017 and 29 May 2017, and as a member of the Parliament of Curaçao until June 2021. Early life and career Pisas was born on 28 October 1971. Before becoming involved in politics, he worked as a police officer. Political career Pisas was elected into the Parliament of Curaçao in the 2016 election. Willemstad ( ; ; ; ) is the capital city, capital and largest city of Curaçao, an island in the southern Caribbean Sea that is a Countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Caribbean guilder (code: XCG; abbreviation: Cg; ; ) is a currency of Curaçao and Sint Maarten, two constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is divided into 100 cents (). Introduced on 31 March 2025, it co-circulates alongside its predecessor, the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG), which will cease to be legal tender on 1 July 2025. In November 2020, it was announced that the Caribbean guilder would come into circulation the following year, but it was delayed several times. Papiamento () or Papiamentu (; ) is a Portuguese-based creole language spoken in the Dutch Caribbean. It is the most widely spoken language on Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao ( ABC Islands). The Parliament of Curaçao () on the island of Curaçao, in the Dutch Caribbean region, consists of 21 members, each elected for a four-year term in a general election. The first Parliament was installed on 10 October 2010, following the dissolution of the Netherlands Antilles, and consisted of the members of the island council elected on 27 August 2010. The first Speaker of the Parliament was Ivar Asjes ( Pueblo Soberano), while Amerigo Thodé ( Movementu Futuro Korsou) was the Deputy Speaker. The Anthem of Curaçao () is the national anthem of Curaçao. Officially adopted on 26 July 1978, it consists of four verses, although only the first and last are commonly sung. Its theme is best summed up by the first stanza, praising the grandeur of Curaçao, as small as the island may be. History The lyrics were first written by a friar of Dutch origin, Friar Radulphus, in celebration of the coronation of Queen Wilhelmina in 1898. The song was known as "" ("In Every Nation Our Fatherland Is Little Known"). During the celebrations, the pupils of a local elementary school, the St. Jozefschool, sang this to the melody of the German Tyrol, Tyrolean hymn "".
