Coop Norden
Coop Norden was a Scandinavian retail chain. It was based in Sweden and owned by three major cooperative retail companies: Sweden's KF (42%), Denmark's FDB (38%), and Norway's Coop NKL (20%). During its years of operation, Coop Norden ran around 1,000 stores and had a yearly turnover of approximately SEK 90 billion. A subsidiary, subsidiary company, or daughter company is a company (law), company completely or partially owned or controlled by another company, called the parent company or holding company, which has legal and financial control over the subsidiary company. A cooperative (also known as co-operative, coöperative, co-op, or coop) is "an autonomy, autonomous association of persons united voluntarily to meet their common economic, social and cultural needs and aspirations through a jointly owned and democratically-controlled wikt:Enterprise, enterprise". Irma (supermarket)
Irma was a high-end chain of supermarkets in Copenhagen and other parts of eastern Denmark. Its first store was established in 1886 by Karen Marie Schepler. On 31 January 2023 Irma's owners, Coop Danmark, announced that all Irma supermarkets would be rebranded or closed within the course of the year. History Origin and growth (1886–1942) The Irma chain traces its history back to 1886 when Karen Marie Schepler established a store named Tavnsborggade Mælkeforsyning at Ravnsborggade 13 in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. Her son Carl Schepler (1870–1942) took it over in 1898. The store started as a retailer of milk and eggs but later expanded into packaged groceries such as tea and sugar. Extra is a Norwegian discount supermarket chain of 574 stores as of 2024. It is part of the Coop Norge cooperative and was until late 2015 named Coop Extra. The chain markets itself as being low-cost while maintaining large stores with a wide selection of items. The chain director of Extra is Daniel Kyrre Pedersen.
