Conroy is an Irish surname. Overview Conroy is an Irish surname of multiple origins. In some cases it is the form used by descendants of the Ó Maolchonaire bardic family of what is now East Galway and South Roscommon. In west County Galway, most bearers of the name are probably descended from the Mac Conraoi family of Delbhna Tír Dhá Locha. This latter Irish family name was often anglicised into King due to the phonological similarity with the word rí. The Ó Cingeadh/ Ó Cionga bardic family from east of Loch Ree also had their name corrupted into King, but for English phonological reasons. Don Conroy
Don Conroy is an Irish artist, environmentalist, television personality and writer of children's literature. His artistic and literary work focuses on natural themes, including wildlife. He works for wildlife conservation in Ireland and made regular appearances on ''The Den'' since it began in 1986, becoming the longest continually serving member of the cast. John Conroy
Sir John Ponsonby Conroy, 1st Baronet, KCH (21 October 1786 – 2 March 1854) was a British Army officer who served as comptroller to the Duchess of Kent and her young daughter, Princess Victoria, the future Queen of the United Kingdom. Conroy was born in Wales to Anglo-Irish parents. In 1817, after holding several ranks in the army, he became the equerry of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn. The Duke died two years later, leaving a widow and infant daughter. Holding the position of comptroller of the Duchess of Kent's household for the next nineteen years, Conroy also acted as her confidant and political agent, among other roles. Joseph Conroy
Michael Joseph Conroy (September 20, 1874September 5, 1946) was the second Mayor of Anchorage, Alaska, serving from 1923 to 1924. Biography Conroy was born in the village of Ballyconneely, County Galway, Ireland, on September 20, 1874. His family emigrated to the United States in 1880, settling in Manchester, New Hampshire. He worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad until 1904. In 1905, he moved to Seward, Alaska to work on the Alaska Central Railroad. He lived for a time in Cordova, Knik and Valdez, where in 1913 he was admitted to the Alaska Bar Association. He served as United States Commissioner in the Seward-Kenai precinct until 1916. During this time he met and married Nellie Rushton Muscott, a nurse from Simpson, Kansas who was working in Seward for Dr. Joseph H. Romig. Frank Parish Conroy (14 October 1890 – 24 February 1964) was a British film and stage actor who appeared in many films, notably '' Grand Hotel'' (1932), '' The Little Minister'' (1934) and ''The Ox-Bow Incident'' (1943).
