The Brazilian Tennis Confederation ( or CBT) is the governing body of tennis in Brazil. CBT is responsible for the organization of events such as the Brasil Open and for representing players in Brazil in all tennis, beach tennis and wheelchair tennis categories and tournaments. It is affiliated with the International Tennis Federation, the Brazilian Olympic Committee, the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and the South America Tennis Confederation. Tennis
Tennis is a List of racket sports, racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent (singles (tennis), singles) or between two teams of two players each (doubles (tennis), doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket strung with a cord to strike a hollow rubber tennis ball, ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's tennis court, court. The object is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men's tennis. It is organised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and contested annually between teams from over 150 competing countries, making it the world's largest annual team sporting competition. It is described by the organisers as the "World Cup of Tennis" and the winners are referred to as the world champions. The Czech Republic's Barbora Krejčíková and Kateřina Siniaková defeated Switzerland's Belinda Bencic and Viktorija Golubic in the final, 7–5, 6–1 to win the gold medal in women's doubles tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics. It was the Czech Republic's first victory in women's doubles, and its third consecutive medal. In the bronze medal match, Brazil's Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani defeated Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina of the Russian Olympic Committee, 4–6, 6–4, 1–9 It was Brazil's first Olympic tennis medal. Luisa Stefani
Luisa Veras Stefani (; born 9 August 1997) is a professional tennis player from Brazil who specializes in doubles. Stefani is the first Brazilian woman to reach the WTA rankings, WTA top 10 in the Open Era. This milestone for Brazilian tennis was hit on 1 November 2021, when she reached a career-high ranking of world No. 9 in doubles. On 20 May 2019, she reached a singles ranking of No. 431. She had a ITF combined junior ranking of No. 10, on March 2015. She won the mixed-doubles competition at the 2023 Australian Open – Mixed doubles, 2023 Australian Open with Rafael Matos, becoming the first all Brazilian pair to win a Grand Slam title. Laura Pigossi Herrmann de Andrade (; born 2 August 1994) is a Brazilian professional tennis player. She won a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, playing alongside Luisa Stefani. Pigossi has won one singles and one doubles title on the WTA Challenger Tour, along with nine singles and 43 doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. On 29 August 2022, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 100, following her first WTA Tour final at the 2022 Copa Colsanitas. Tennis at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo was held between 24 July and 1 August 2021 at the Ariake Tennis Park. The tournament featured 191 players in five events: singles and doubles for both men and women and mixed doubles. The hard-court Deco Turf surface at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was chosen by the Tokyo Organizing Committee. This marked the fifth time that this type of surface was utilized for the Olympic Games. Tennis At The 1968 Summer Olympics – Exhibition Mixed Doubles
Since the 1968 Summer Olympics did not feature tennis as an official sport, two unofficial tournaments were held during the Games: a Demonstration tournament and an Exhibition tournament. The Exhibition tournament was played from 24 to 26 October 1968 on the clay courts of the Chapultepec Sports Center in Mexico City, Mexico. All matches were played at best-of-three sets; since the tiebreak rule wasn't implemented until the 1970s, a team had to win a set by a two-game margin in case of a 6–6 draw. Due to the short length of the tournament, no third-place match was played, and both semifinal losers received bronze medals. Soviets Zaiga Jansone and Vladimir Korotkov won the tournament by defeating American Peaches Bartkowicz and West German Ingo Buding 7–5, 6–4 in the final. Suzana Petersen
Suzana Petersen (born 14 October 1947), later Suzana Gesteira, is a Brazilian former tennis player. She competed at the 1968 Summer Olympics, where tennis was a demonstration and exhibition sport, in the exhibition events. Together with Ecuadorian María Eugenia Guzmán she finished third in the women's doubles exhibition event. Petersen also finished third in the women's singles and mixed doubles (with Teimuraz Kakulia of the Soviet Union) exhibition events, making her one of the "top Brazilian female players". Prior to Laura Pigossi and Luisa Stefani's bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics, Petersen was the only Brazilian player to finish in the top three of an Olympic tennis event.
