Irwin Larry Eberhart II, better known by his stage name Chip E. (born 1966), is an American DJ and record producer. He is one of the early artists of the then-burgeoning house music movement that began in 1980s Chicago. Life and career Born in Chicago, Chip E. attended St. Ignatius College Prep, Kenwood Academy, Columbia College Chicago and DePaul University. He started spinning records in 1982 and by 1984 he was producing records. In November 1986 ''Street Mix'' magazine called Chip E. the "Godfather of House Music." on the cover of issue #1. In 1987, he became the first Chicago artist to be in regular rotation on all three major Chicago radio stations (WBMX, WGCI-FM and B96). Former B96 programming manager Joe Bohannon of Eddie & JoBo made the decision to add "If You Only Knew" to regular rotation and with that began the transition of the station from CHR (contemporary hit radio) to a dance music station. Michael H. McDonald (born February 12, 1952) is an American singer, songwriter and keyboardist. Harry Dennis (sometimes spelled Harri) is a house music producer and lyricist from Chicago, United States, who was part of the original generation of house music in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Early life Dennis is a native Chicagoan who completed his elementary and high school education in Chicago Public Schools (CPS). While attending Illinois State University (ISU), he incorporated drama and music into his core studies and became interested in songwriting and lyric development. Willie Lidell Townsell is a house musician from Chicago, Illinois. He originally released numerous singles on the Trax Records, Trax and D.J. International Records, D.J. International labels. He released one album, ''Harmony'', on Mercury Records, Mercury/PolyGram Records as Lidell Townsell in 1992. Footwork (genre)
Footwork, also called juke, or Chicago juke, is a genre of electronic dance music derived from ghetto house with elements of hip hop, first appearing in Chicago in the late 1990s. The music style evolved from the earlier, rapid rhythms of ghetto house, a change pioneered by RP Boo, DJ Rashad and DJ Clent. It may draw from the rapid rhythms and sub-bass frequencies of drum & bass. Tracks also frequently feature heavily syncopated samples from rap, pop and other sources, and are often around 160 bpm. The term juke music may be used as a synonym for footwork music, or may be used to differentiate between footwork the closely related ''proper juke'' music born in the 1990s from ghetto house together with footwork music, and somewhat predating it. Ghetto House
Ghetto house or booty house is a subgenre of house music which started being recognized as a distinct style from around 1992 onwards. It features minimal 808 and 909 drum machine-driven tracks and sometimes sexually explicit lyrics. The template of classic Chicago house music (primarily, "It's Time for the Percolator" by Cajmere) was used with the addition of sexual lyrics. It has usually been made on minimal equipment with little or no effects. It usually features either a " 4-to-the-floor" kick drum or beat-skipping kick drums such as those found in the subgenre "juke" (full sounding, but not too long or distorted) along with Roland 808 and 909 synthesized tom-tom sounds, minimal use of analogue synths, and short, slightly dirty sounding (both sonically and lyrically) vocals samples, often repeated in various ways.
