The Central and Western District (, ) located on northwestern part of Hong Kong Island is one of the districts of Hong Kong, 18 administrative districts of Hong Kong. Sai Ying Pun
Sai Ying Pun is an area in Sai Wan, on Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong. It is administratively part of the Central and Western District. Etymology In Cantonese, ''Sai'' ( zh, t=西, labels=no) means "west" and ''Ying Pun'' ( zh, t=營盤, labels=no) means "camp", especially a military camp. It was where the Military history of Hong Kong, early British military stayed. Location Sai Ying Pun is built on the steeply sloping lower slopes of Victoria Peak and also on the western land reclamation in Hong Kong, reclamation. Tai Ping Shan Street
Tai Ping Shan Street is a street marking the early colonial history in Hong Kong. Located at the north slope of Victoria Peak in Sheung Wan, the street starts east from a ladder street at the junction with Bridges Street and end west in Po Yan Street near Tung Wah Hospital. The street runs parallel to Hollywood Road. Today, Tai Ping Shan Street is well known for its contemporary art, with plenty of pop-up galleries and other specialty retailers offering their wares to shoppers passing by. Sheung Wan (Chinese: 上環) is an List of places in Hong Kong, area in Hong Kong, located in the north-west of Hong Kong Island, between Central, Hong Kong, Central and Sai Ying Pun. Garden Road (Traditional Chinese characters, Chinese: 花園道) is a major road on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong, connecting the Central, Hong Kong, Central and Mid-Levels areas. Possession Street () is a street in Sheung Wan, from Queen's Road West to Hollywood Road, on Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The street marks the boundary of Queen's Road West and Queen's Road Central. Name The original Chinese name was (''Po Se Son Kai''), based on the pronunciation of English name. It was later renamed to (''Sui Hang Hou Kai'') after a nullah beside. History The area was the site of ''Possession Point'', a former point of land on the northwestern coast of Hong Kong, before land reclamation moved the spot further inland. Colonial Hong Kong
Hong Kong was under British rule from 1841 to 1997, except for a brief period of Japanese occupation during World War II from 1941 to 1945.
