Sheung Wan
Sheung Wan (Chinese: 上環) is an List of places in Hong Kong, area in Hong Kong, located in the north-west of Hong Kong Island, between Central, Hong Kong, Central and Sai Ying Pun. Administratively, it is part of the Central and Western District. The name can be variously interpreted as ''Upper District'' (occupying relatively high ground compared to Central and Wan Chai), or ''Gateway District'' (perhaps a reference to the location where the British first entered and occupied Hong Kong). History Sheung Wan was one of the earliest settled places by the British, and belonged to the historical Victoria, Hong Kong, Victoria City. The site of the original occupation of Hong Kong Island by Military of the United Kingdom, British forces in 1842 was at Possession Street, between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. Queen's Road Central
Queen's Road is a collection of roads along the northern coast of Hong Kong Island, in Hong Kong, within the limit of Victoria, Hong Kong, Victoria City. It was the first road in Hong Kong, constructed History of Hong Kong (1800s–1930s), by the British between 1841 and 1843, spanning across Victoria City from Shek Tong Tsui to Wan Chai. Hollywood Road Park
Hollywood Road Park () is an urban public park in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. The park is built in Chinese architectural style and is surrounded by buildings nearby. History In maps of the 1980s and before, Hollywood Road Park is marked as ''Possession Point''. Possession Point is the location where the Royal Navy landed on Hong Kong Island, before the signing of the Treaty of Nanking. The commander of Far East Fleet, James John Gordon Bremer, came to Hong Kong via on 26 January 1841. A flag raising and gun ceremony marked the official possession of Hong Kong, and the landing venue was renamed as Possession Point. Hong Kong Museum Of Medical Sciences
The Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences was established in 1996. It is in a renovated three-story Edwardian-style building, at 2 Caine Lane at the Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It is also referred to as Old Pathological Institute. The aim of the museum is to promote the collection and preservation of materials of historical interest relating to the development of the medical industry in Hong Kong. Blake Garden, Hong Kong
Blake Garden ( zh, t=卜公花園), also known as Blake Gardens, is a small urban park in Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island, near Man Mo Temple. The park is named after Sir Henry Arthur Blake, a former British governor of Hong Kong. It includes hard-surface playing areas for football, basketball and badminton/volleyball. History In 1894, the bubonic plague broke out in Hong Kong, centred on Tai Ping Shan Street, which was densely populated with deplorable sanitary conditions. In response, the buildings in the area were bought and demolished by the Government. The worst affected area was redeveloped. Rumsey Street
Rumsey Street ( Chinese: 林士街) is a street in Sheung Wan on the Hong Kong Island of Hong Kong. It begins at Wing Lok Street near COSCO Tower, crossing Des Voeux Road Central and Connaught Road Central, and reaches the Victoria Harbour. Name The street was named in 1905 after Robert Murray Rumsey, the Harbour Master of Hong Kong Government. Features Wing On Department Store is located at the street. Connaught Road Central
Connacht or Connaught ( ; or ), is the smallest of the four provinces of Ireland, situated in the west of Ireland. Victoria Peak
