John Pham (scientist)
John W. Pham is an American molecular biologist and editor-in-chief of Cell (journal), ''Cell'', a prestigious scientific journal. He is an advocate for inclusion and diversity, and he represents LGBT, LGBTQ and Asian communities. Biography John Pham was born in the U.S. a few weeks after his parents and older siblings arrived as refugees from Vietnam, and he was raised in Florida. He earned a bachelor's degree (B.S.) in music and biochemistry from Bates College. He completed a Ph.D. at Northwestern University under advisor Erik Sontheimer. His research focused on understanding the mechanisms of RNA splicing and RNA interference. He presented his dissertation in 2006 which was entitled ''Building the Drosophila RNA-induced silencing complex''. After is PhD, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital. The impact factor (IF) or journal impact factor (JIF) of an academic journal is a type of journal ranking. Journals with higher impact factor values are considered more prestigious or important within their field. Benjamin Lewin
Benjamin Lewin is a molecular biologist who founded the journal ''Cell'' and authored the textbook ''Genes.'' He is credited with building ''Cell'' into a recognized journal of cellular biology in a short period of time to rival ''Nature'' and ''Science''. Following a tutorial session at the University of Sussex, Lewin became editor of '' Nature New Biology''. He left to work at the National Institutes of Health and, while working there, developed his ideas for a comprehensive biology journal.
