Cedar Lake (Aitkin County, Minnesota)
Cedar Lake is a lake in Aitkin County, Minnesota, in the United States. The lake is named ''Gaa-miskwaawaakokaag'' in Ojibwe meaning "Place abundant with red cedars" after the red cedar which grew there. In early maps, this lake was recorded in French as ''Lac cèdre rouge inférieur'' (Lower Red Cedar Lake), opposed to Cass Lake known in French as ''Lac du Cedre Rouge'', and English as ''Upper Red Cedar Lake''. Aitkin County, Minnesota
Aitkin County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 15,697. Its county seat is Aitkin. Part of the Mille Lacs Indian Reservation is in the county. The county was created in 1857 and organized in 1871. History Aitkin County was established in 1857 as ''Aiken County''. The current spelling was adopted in 1872. It was named for William Alexander Aitken, a fur trader for the American Fur Company, under John Jacob Astor. Formed from Ramsey and Pine counties, Aiken County originally consisted of the 17 townships closest to Mille Lacs Lake. It acquired outlands of Ramsey, Itasca and Pine Counties to its north and east. It was organized in 1871, taking up lands from Cass and Itasca Counties and losing a point in the southwestern corner to Crow Wing County to form its current boundaries. Cass Lake (Minnesota)
Cass Lake is a lake in north central Minnesota in the United States. It is approximately long and wide, located in Cass and Beltrami counties, within the Chippewa National Forest and the Leech Lake Indian Reservation, adjacent to its namesake city of Cass Lake. It is the 11th largest lake in Minnesota, and the 8th largest lake lying entirely within the borders of the state. This is a list of lakes of Minnesota. Although promoted as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", Minnesota has 11,842 lakes of or more. The 1968 state survey found 15,291 lake basins, of which 3,257 were dry. If all basins over 2.5 acres were counted, Minnesota would have 21,871 lakes. The prevalence of lakes has generated many repeat names.
