Arthur Castrén
Johan Arthur Castrén (10 June 1866 – 29 June 1946) was a Finnish politician, born in Turtola. He was a member of the Senate of Finland and the first director of internal affairs from 27 November 1917 to 27 November 1918, before the Ministry of Interior was created. He served as the municipal mayor of Oulu from 1896–1908 and as the mayor of Helsinki from 1922–1930, and formally as the senior municipal mayor from 1931–1936. Life and political career Arthur Castrén belonged to the Castrén family, a historically notable and influential family of civil servants and priests. Castrén was born to Johan Robert Castrén and Ida Taucher on 10 June 1866; he had an older brother called Kaarlo Castrén, who was also influential in politics. Inga-Brita Castrén
Inga-Brita Castrén (1919–2003) was a Finnish theologian who spent ten years abroad working in Geneva for the World Student Christian Federation, the World YWCA, and the World Council of Churches as an ecumenical adviser. Returning to Finland, she worked in adult education and served as the General Secretary of the Finnish Ecumenical Council. After retirement, Castrén continued writing for a decade. Kaarlo Castrén
Kaarlo Castrén (28 February 1860 – 19 November 1938) was a Finnish politician and Prime Minister of Finland. He represented the National Progressive Party. Biography Castrén was born in Turtola and graduated in 1887 as a Bachelor of Law. From 1888 to 1892, he worked in the finance division of the Senate of Finland, and from 1888 to 1898 in the Castrén & Snellman attorneys-at-law office. From 1892 to 1904, Castrén was a member of the board in the Kansallis-Osake-Pankki bank. He attended the state board meetings in 1894 and from 1905 to 1906. He was Senator from 1908 to 1909, after which he founded an attorney-at-law office. In 1916, Castrén was elected as the director of Kansallis-Osake-Pankki. In November 1918, Castrén was named Minister of Finance. He served as Prime Minister of Finland from 17 April to 15 August 1919. Matthias Castrén
Matthias Alexander Castrén (2 December 1813 – 7 May 1852) was a Finnish Swedish ethnologist and philologist who was a pioneer in the study of the Uralic languages. He was an educator, author and linguist at the University of Helsinki. Castrén is known for his research in the linguistics and ethnography of the Northern Eurasian peoples. Early life Castrén was born at Tervola, in northern Finland. His father, Christian Castrén, the parish priest and vicar in Rovaniemi, died in 1825. Matilda Maria Castren (born 18 January 1995) is a Finnish professional golfer playing on the LPGA Tour. In 2021 she won the LPGA Mediheal Championship to become the first player from Finland to win on the LPGA Tour.
