Carmen Susana Simões
Carmen Susana Simões (born 8 March 1973, in Lisbon, Portugal) is a Portuguese singer and lyricist of darkwave and gothic music, characterized by a melancholic mezzo-soprano voice. Carmen began her musical career in local Gothic rock bands known as 'Poetry of Shadows' and 'Isiphilon'. In 1997, Carmen soon became the lead singer of the prestigious darkwave band Aenima. As of 2005, next to the award-winning musician Rune Eriksen, she became the vocalist for the Doom metal band Ava Inferi, where she would also participate in a Moonspell album, in 2007. Gothic Metal
Gothic metal (or goth metal) is a fusion genre combining the aggression of heavy metal music, heavy metal with the dark atmospheres of gothic rock. The music of gothic metal is diverse with bands known to adopt the gothic approach to different styles of heavy metal music. The genre originated during the early 1990s in the United Kingdom originally as an outgrowth of death-doom, a fusion of death metal and doom metal. Lyrics are generally dark and introspective with inspiration from gothic fiction as well as personal experiences. Ava Inferi
Ava Inferi was a Portuguese gothic metal band formed in Almada by Norwegian guitarist and songwriter Rune Eriksen (a.k.a. Blasphemer, Mayhem). Their debut album, '' Burdens'', was released in January 2006. In the spring of 2007, vocalist Carmen Susana Simões laid vocals on the re-recording '' Under Satanæ'' by Moonspell. In October 2007, the band released their second studio album, called '' The Silhouette''. In May 2009, the band released their third album, '' Blood of Bacchus''. Moonspell is a Portuguese gothic metal band formed in 1992. The group released their first EP, '' Under the Moonspell'', in 1994 and followed up with their debut album, '' Wolfheart'', a year later. They quickly became the most recognizable metal band from Portugal and a key figure in gothic metal. Fernando Ribeiro is co-founder, singer and songwriter of the band. Rune Eriksen (born 13 January 1975), also known by his stage name Blasphemer, is a Norwegian musician best known as the former guitarist and songwriter of black metal band Mayhem (band), Mayhem. He took his stage name from a Sodom (band), Sodom song and joined Mayhem in October 1994, before departing the band in late 2008.
