Carina is an eastern suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Carina had a population of 11,678 people. Geography Carina is located east of the CBD, and borders Carindale, Carina Heights, Cannon Hill and Camp Hill. Carina is a mostly residential suburb. History Carina was originally inhabited by Murris; most likely the Jagera. The area was first settled by Europeans in the 1850s, with the land mainly used for farming and timber-getting. The suburb takes its name from an estate on Creek Road constructed in the 1850s. The property belonged to Ebenezer Thorne, and was itself named after Thorne's daughter Kate Carina. Growth occurred during the 1880s and early 1900s, when it was the main place of settlement in the Shire of Belmont. In May 1889, (on what was then known as Coorparoo), 275 subdivided allotments of "Stanley Street Extended Estate" were advertised to be auctioned by James R. Dickson & Company. Old Cleveland Road, Brisbane
Old Cleveland Road is a major road in Brisbane, Queensland. It runs from Stones Corner to Capalaba in Brisbane, with most of the route signed as State Route 22. Sections of the road are also part of State Routes 30, 54, and 55. The road is the main route from inner Brisbane to Capalaba and Cleveland since New Cleveland Road only links Tingalpa with Capalaba. The road provides the quickest access to the suburbs of Capalaba and Carindale from Logan Road and the Gateway Motorway, as well as being a main access road for Westfield Carindale Shopping Centre and Capalaba Central Shopping Centre. When completed the Eastern Busway will run parallel to, and (in some parts) in the middle of, the road so bus patrons can avoid severe peak hour traffic congestion road-wide. Carina State School
Carina State School is a public co-educational primary school located in the Brisbane suburb of Carindale, Queensland, Australia. It is administered by the Queensland Department of Education, with an enrolment of 283 students and a teaching staff of 24 as of 2024. The school serves students from Prep to Year 6. It was placed on the Brisbane Heritage Register as a Local Heritage Place on 1 January 2004, due to its historical significance to the growth of the surrounding area. History The school was established on 1 January 1917, opening on 30 January 1917, with between 62 and 64 foundation students and Charles Briggs as the head teacher. Coorparoo ( ) is a suburb in the inner City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. In the , Coorparoo had a population of 18,132 people. Geography Coorparoo is by road south-east of the Brisbane GPO. It borders Camp Hill, Holland Park, Stones Corner, Greenslopes, East Brisbane and Norman Park. Toponymy Coorparoo was chosen as the name of the suburb at a public meeting on 22 March 1875, before which it was known as Four Mile Camp. The name Coorparoo is likely derived from an Aboriginal name for Norman Creek, probably recorded by early surveyors as ''Koolpuroom''. The word is thought to refer to either a place associated with mosquitoes, or a sound made by the 'gentle dove'. The latter explanation appears doubtful though, as 'gentle dove' may mean the spotted dove, which was introduced to the area in 1912, long after the name Coorparoo was adopted. History The Bulimba Division was one of the original divisions created on 11 November 1879 under the ''Divisional Boards Act 1879'' with a population of 2007.
