Carbury–Goodlands Border Crossing
The Carbury–Goodlands Border Crossing connects the towns of Souris, North Dakota, and Deloraine, Manitoba, on the Canada–United States border. North Dakota Highway 14 on the American side joins Manitoba Highway 21 on the Canadian side. Canadian side Deloraine, which had a customs presence from 1889, served as the frontier office. In 1932, the function was moved to the border, adopting the name of Goodlands, the nearest post office. That year, a residence and office accommodation were erected. Canada replaced the 1970s-era Goodlands border station in 2014. In 2020, the former border hours of 8am–10pm reduced, becoming 9am–5pm. US side The settlement of Carbury, North Dakota has virtually vanished. The border station built in 1963 was replaced in 2011. The border was previously open until 10 pm. Carbury, North Dakota
Carbury is an unincorporated community in Bottineau County in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It is located along North Dakota Highway 14 in the eastern part of the county, east of Souris. The town is virtually abandoned, and the 2000 Census did not record a population. The post office closed in 1984, and it is now part of zip code 58783 covered by the post office in Souris. Carbury is also designated by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency as a port of entry between the United States and Canada. History Carbury is named after the village of Carbury in County Kildare, Ireland. Founded in 1901 as a station on the Great Northern Railway, the post office first opened April 16, 1906. Though the town has been known as Carbury since its founding, it was originally intended to be named Roth, which is a town roughly to the west. Souris is a rural small city in Bottineau County, North Dakota, United States. There is a large granary at Souris, also a bank, post office and bar; but no grocery or gas station. Manitoba Highway 21
Provincial Trunk Highway 21 (PTH 21) is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It runs from the U.S. border (where it meets with ND 14) to PTH 45 and PR 577 in the village of Oakburn. PTH 21 is two lanes and runs north–south in the southwestern region of the province. It is the main highway for the towns of Deloraine (where it meets PTH 3), Hartney, Hamiota, and Shoal Lake. The speed limit is 90 km/h (55 mph). In 2012, PTH 21 was given the dubious distinction of being named the second-worst road in the province that year. Deloraine is an unincorporated urban community in the Municipality of Deloraine – Winchester within the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Manitoba that held List of towns in Manitoba, town status prior to January 1, 2015. North Dakota Highway 14
North Dakota Highway 14 (ND 14) is a north–south state highway in the U.S. state of North Dakota. ND 14's southern terminus is at Interstate 94 (I-94) and U.S. Route 83 (US 83) west of Hague, and the northern terminus is a continuation as Manitoba Highway 21 (PTH 21) at the Canada–United States border. Route description ND 14 begins at I-94 and US 83 near Sterling, and continues north for 73.2 miles until joining US 52 to go northwest just outside of Anamoose. Along the 73.2 miles, ND 14 intersects with ND 36 outside of Wing, and ND 200 in rural Sheridan County near Denhoff.
