Calanda, Spain
Calanda is a town in the Teruel (province), province of Teruel, Aragon, Spain. It lies on the southern fringe of the Ebro river basin, at the confluence of the Rivers Guadalope and Guadalopillo. The local economy is based upon agriculture, especially the cultivation of peaches and olives, both of which have Geographical indications and traditional specialities in the European Union, Protected Designation of Origin status: ''Melocotón de Calanda'' in the case of the peach production and ''Aceite del Bajo Aragón'' for the olive oil. Other agricultural products are almonds and other fruits as well as some cereals. Calanda (mountain)
The Calanda is a mountain (more precisely, a massif) in the Glarus Alps with two main peaks: Haldensteiner Calanda (2805 m) and Felsberger Calanda (2697 m), both located on the border between the cantons of St. Gallen and Graubünden in eastern Switzerland. It looms over Chur, the capital city of Graubünden. Although Felsberger Calanda's topographic prominence is 286 metres''—''enough to possibly be considered a mountain in its own right''—''the massif is commonly said to be one mountain with several peaks. It lies between the valleys of the Rhine (to the southeast) and the Tamina (to the northwest), and is separated from the Ringelspitz by the Kunkels Pass. The name Calanda derives from the Latin "calare", roughly meaning roll down, which refers to the ever-moving southern face that can be seen at Felsberg and is still an active rock slide. Calanda Bräu (German for " Calanda Brew") is a brewery in Chur, in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland, owned by Heineken N.V. Its lagers, brewed using Alpine spring water, are available across Switzerland. History The Calanda Bräu name dates from 1971, as the new name of the ''Rhätische Aktienbräuerei'' (itself dating from 1902), which at the time had control over all independent breweries in the Canton of Graubünden. The regional in Winterthur joined in 1989, forming Calanda Haldengut. In 1993, Calanda Haldengut was acquired by Heineken. After the merger, Heineken moved brewing of Haldengut beer to Chur, and closed the Winterthur brewery. As of 2008, Calanda and Haldengut are both marketed across Switzerland, with a modest national market share of 2.7% each. Miracle Of Calanda
The Miracle of Calanda is an event that allegedly took place in Calanda, Spain in 1640, according to 17th century documents. The documents state that a young farmer's leg was restored to him after having been amputated two and a half years earlier. Background as claimed by believers At the end of July 1637, Miguel Pellicer (1617–1647), a 20-year-old man from Calanda, Spain, Calanda in Aragon was working as an agricultural labourer at Castellón de la Plana, Castellón, 60 km from Valencia, Spain, Valencia, on his uncle's farm.
