CSS (band)
CSS (an initialism of Cansei de Ser Sexy) (, English lit. "[Got] tired of being sexy") is a Brazilian rock music, rock band from São Paulo. The band was labelled as part of the explosion of the New Rave music, new rave scene of the late 2000s. CSS releases songs in both Portuguese and English, something which allowed them to develop a significant audience in the anglosphere in their formative years. In 2011 founding member Adriano Cintra left the band, which indirectly led to CSS becoming inactive between 2013 and 2019. The band reformed without Cintra in 2019, at first planning to simply play one gig in São Paulo, but its success drove the members to return full-time. Rock en Seine () is a multiple-day rock music festival, held at Domaine National de Saint-Cloud, the Château de Saint-Cloud's park, west of Paris, inside the garden designed by André Le Nôtre. "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" is the first international single by Brazilian band CSS, taken from their debut studio album, ''Cansei de Ser Sexy''. Background and release The title is a reference to Canadian band Death from Above. The song's video was directed by Cat Solen and the track was later commercially released in several formats. It reached number 39 on the UK Singles Chart after it was re-issued in May 2007. The B-side for "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" is the cut "Acho Um Pouco Bom" (roughly "I think it's a bit good", in Portuguese). Accolades and media The song was rated as the sixth best track of the year 2006 by the ''NME'' magazine and named the 299th best song of the 2000s by Pitchfork Media. ''Cansei de Ser Sexy'' is the first full-length album by Brazilian indie rock band CSS. It was released on October 9, 2005 by Trama in Brazil, where it reportedly sold 5,000 copies and failed to chart. It was released in the United States on July 11, 2006 on the Sub Pop label, and in the United Kingdom on January 22, 2007 by Sire Records. A limited edition version of the album included a CD-R. The purpose of this was that the buyer could burn a copy of the album onto the CD-R to give to someone else as a gift. The song "Alala" and video for " Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" were included preloaded on the Zune multimedia player, released in November 2006. The singles "Alala", "Off the Hook" and "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death from Above" all charted on the UK Singles Chart, with the latter of the three reaching the top 40.
