Complement Component 9
Complement component 9 (C9) is a MACPF protein involved in the complement system, which is part of the innate immune system. Once activated, about 12-18 molecules of C9 polymerize to form pores in target cell membranes, causing lysis and cell death. C9 is one member of the complement membrane attack complex (MAC), which also includes complement components C5b, C6, C7 and C8.  The formation of the MAC occurs through three distinct pathways: the classical, alternative, and lectin pathways. Pore formation by C9 is an important way that bacterial cells are killed during an infection, and the target cell is often covered in multiple MACs. The clinical impact of a deficiency in C9 is an infection with the gram-negative bacterium ''Neisseria meningitidis.'' Structure C9 genes include 11 exons and 10 introns An intron is any Nucleic acid sequence, nucleotide sequence within a gene that is not expressed or operative in the final RNA product. The word ''intron'' is derived from th ...

Ford C-9
The Ford Trimotor (also called the "Tri-Motor", and nicknamed the "Tin Goose") is an American three-engined transport aircraft. Production started in 1925 by the companies of Henry Ford and ended on June 7, 1933, after 199 had been made. It was designed for the civil aviation market, but also saw service with military units. Design and development In the early 1920s, Henry Ford, along with a group of 19 others including his son Edsel, invested in the Stout Metal Airplane Company. Stout, a bold and imaginative salesman, sent a mimeographed form letter to leading manufacturers, blithely asking for $1,000 with the line, "For your one thousand dollars you will get one definite promise: You will never get your money back" to convince them. Stout raised $20,000, including $1,000 each from Edsel and Henry Ford. In 1925, Ford bought Stout and its aircraft designs. The single-engined Stout monoplane was turned into a trimotor, the Stout 3-AT with three Curtiss-Wright air-cooled radi ...

Holiday Lighting Technology
Holiday lighting technology has been subject to considerable development and variation since the replacement of candles by electric lights. While originally used during the Christmas holidays as Christmas lights, modern electric light arrays have become popular around the world in many cultures and are used both during religious festivals and for other purposes unconnected to any festivities. Incandescent lights Incandescent light bulbs have been commonly used in holiday lights until recently. These lights produce a broad-spectrum white light, and are colored by coating the glass envelope with a translucent paint which acts as a color filter. Some early Japanese-made lamps used colored glass. Glow discharge lights Glow discharge light bulbs also can be used as holiday lights. The most common are neon, argon and mercury fluorescent lamps. They can glow in different colors, depending on the gas filling or the chemical composition of the phosphor. Neon lamps have a characteristic ...

ISO 216
ISO 216 is an international standard for paper sizes, used around the world except in North America and parts of Latin America. The standard defines the "A", "B" and "C" series of paper sizes, which includes the A4, the most commonly available paper size worldwide. Two supplementary standards, ISO 217 and ISO 269, define related paper sizes; the ISO 269 "C" series is commonly listed alongside the A and B sizes. All ISO 216, ISO 217 and ISO 269 paper sizes (except some envelopes) have the same aspect ratio, , within rounding to millimetres. This ratio has the unique property that when cut or folded in half widthways, the halves also have the same aspect ratio. Each ISO paper size is one half of the area of the next larger size in the same series. Dimensions of A, B and C series History The oldest known mention of the advantages of basing a paper size on an aspect ratio of \sqrt is found in a letter written on 25 October 1786 by the German scientist Georg Christoph ...

SL C9
The SL Cx series is the collective designation for the C1–C15 types of metro trains used on the Stockholm Metro from 1950 until 2024. Over 800 Cx cars were built in total. They were manufactured by ASEA, Hägglund & Söner, and Svenska Järnvägsverkstäderna (ASJ), and underwent significant technical development during their production span. The cars were typically operated in 6 or 8-car formations, which constituted a full-length train of approximately 140 metres. The Cx cars were designed for interoperability, and most types could be freely mixed within a train. The Cx series formed the entirety of Stockholm’s metro fleet from its inception until the introduction of the C20 units in 1997. The last Cx units were withdrawn from service on the metro in February 2024, following the introduction of the C30 units in 2020. As of 2025, some converted Cx units remain in operation on Saltsjöbanan suburban railway. History The Cx series includes the car types C1, C2, C3, C4, ...

LNER Class C9
The NER Class Z (LNER Class C7) was an "Atlantic" class of locomotives designed by Vincent Raven. It was introduced in 1911. Construction and early life Vincent Raven had been appointed Chief Mechanical Engineer of the North Eastern Railway (NER) in June 1910. His predecessor, Wilson Worsdell, had introduced three-cylinder simple-expansion locomotives to the NER with the Class X 4-8-0T, ten of which were built in 1909–10 for heavy shunting. One of Raven's first designs was another three-cylinder locomotive, the Class Y 4-6-2T, twenty of which were built in 1910–11 for hauling coal trains from collieries to ports. The success of these two designs convinced Raven to design a three-cylinder locomotive to haul express passenger trains. Worsdell's two-cylinder Class V 4-4-2 were handling the principal East Coast expresses, and Raven combined the 4-4-2 wheel arrangement with three cylinders to produce his new design. The coupled wheels were of diameter with a coupled wheelbase ...
