Bērziņš ( Old orthography: ''Be(h)rsin(g)''; feminine: Bērziņa) is the Latvian surname, derived from the Latvian word for "birch tree". Kaspars Bērziņš
Kaspars Bērziņš (born 25 August 1985) is a Latvian professional basketball player. He has also represented the senior Latvian national team. Professional career Kaspars started playing basketball in his hometown of Ogre. Later, he played for Skonto Riga, debuting in the 2002–2003 season. His role increased in 2003–2004, when he averaged 7.3 points and 3.3 rebounds for Skonto in the LBL and 7.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in the FIBA Europe League, now known as the FIBA EuroCup. In both of those seasons, Bērziņš played together with Andris Biedriņš. In 2004, both of them left Skonto. Biedriņš was drafted in the NBA by the Golden State Warriors, while Bērziņš moved to Spain, where he joined Unicaja Málaga. He briefly played for Unicaja's first team, where he competed in one game in the ACB league, scoring two points, but most of his season was spent with the junior team in the EBA, Spain's second division. Uldis Bērziņš
Uldis Bērziņš (17 May 1944 – 24 March 2021) was a Latvian poet and translator. Biography He studied Latvian philology at the University of Latvia and published his first collection of poetry in 1980. Bērziņš studied Turkish in Leningrad University Oriental Studies Department (from 1968 to 1971), and also studied in the Asian and African Studies section of Moscow State University (concentrating on Persian and Turkish), at Tashkent State University ( Uzbek), Reykjavik University ( Icelandic), as well as in Czechoslovakia, Sweden and other countries. Bērziņš took part in the international Bible translation seminar at the Amsterdam Open University and Lund University forum over questions regarding Koran translations. Reinholds Bērziņš
Reinholds Bērziņš () (16 July 1888 - 19 March 1938) was a Latvian teacher, and later a rifleman and Soviet military leader. He was executed during the Great Purge and rehabilitated during the Khruschev Thaw. Early years Berzin was born on 16 July 1888 at Ķoņi Parish, Governorate of Livonia, Russian Empire (today – in Latvia, near the border with Estonia) in a family of farmworkers for-hire. His level of education is uncertain, but it is known that initially he worked as a herder and later as a factory worker. In 1905 Berziņš joined the Social Democracy of the Latvian Territory. Beginning in 1909 he worked as a teacher. In 1911 Bērziņš was arrested for distributing Bolshevik literature and spent over a year in prison. Alfons Bērziņš
Alfons Bērziņš (7 November 1916 – 16 December 1987) was a Latvian Long track speed skating, long track speed skater. He competed at the 1936 Winter Olympics (got 14th place in the 500 m event). John Bērziņš
John Bērziņš (, born Pēteris Bērziņš or Pyotr Leonodovich Berzin, ; born 16 March 1956, Cooma, New South Wales, NSW, Australia) is bishop of Caracas and South America for the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) and head of the church's edinoverie, Old-Rite parishes. Vladimirs Bērziņš
Vladimirs Bērziņš (born 16 December 1905, date of death unknown) was a Latvian football midfielder and manager and was one of the most capped footballers in pre-war Latvia. Biography Bērziņš began playing football with the mostly German sports club Union Riga in 1925. He was selected to play for the Latvia national football team on 26 August 1925 for a friendly match against Estonia, but he was removed later from the list of selected players. At the end of the 1926 football season, Bērziņš left Union for the three-time champion of Latvia, RFK, where he played the rest of his football career. With RFK, he won the Latvian Higher League title four times – in 1930, 1931, 1934 and 1935. In the second half of the 1930s, Bērziņš played very little with RFK and retired from playing in 1939. Jānis Bērziņš (born 4 May 1993) is a Latvian professional basketball player for Górnik Wałbrzych of the Polish Basketball League (PLK). Standing at he plays at the small forward position. Aldis Imants Bērziņš (born October 3, 1956) is a Latvian-American former volleyball player who was a member of the United States national team that won the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He also won a gold medal at the 1985 FIVB World Cup in Japan, where he was selected as the best digger. College Bērziņš was a star outside hitter on the Ohio State volleyball team. Roberts Bērziņš (born January 10, 2001) is a Latvian professional basketball player who currently plays for the VEF Rīga. He plays at shooting guard position.
