Thomas Burberry (27 August 1835 – 4 April 1926) was an English fashion designer, and the founder of international chain Burberry, one of Britain's largest branded-clothing businesses. He is also known as the inventor of gabardine. Early life and career beginnings Born at Brockham Green near Dorking in Surrey, and educated at Brockham Green Village School, Thomas Burberry was apprenticed to a local draper's shop before he opened his outfitting business in Basingstoke in 1856. Daniel Lee (born 22 January 1986) is an English fashion designer. He was the creative director of the Italian luxury fashion house Bottega Veneta from 2018 to 2021, subsequently being appointed as Riccardo Tisci's replacement as Chief Creative Officer at the helm of Burberry. Early life Daniel Lee grew up in Bradford, England. His father was a mechanic and his mother was an office worker. Daniel Lee first attended the Dixons City Academy, and then graduated from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design (master's degree) where he was tutored by Louise Wilson. Gabardine Gabardine is a durable twill worsted wool. It is a tightly woven waterproof fabric and is used to make outerwear and various other garments, such as suit (clothing), suits, overcoats, trousers, uniforms, and windbreakers. Gerard Martin Murphy (born November 1955) is an Irish businessman and the chairman of Burberry and Tesco. He is the former chairman of Tate & Lyle. Education Murphy earned a BSc and PhD in food science and technology. He attended University College Dublin graduating with an MBS in 1983 in marketing.
