Budišov () is a market town in Třebíč District in the Vysočina Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 1,200 inhabitants. Administrative division Budišov consists of two municipal parts (in brackets population according to the 2021 census): *Budišov (1,099) *Mihoukovice (107) Geography Budišov is located about northeast of Třebíč and west of Brno. The southwestern part of the municipal territory lies in the Jevišovice Uplands and the northeastern part lies in the Křižanov Highlands. The highest point is at above sea level. A notable body of water is Pyšelák Pond, but there are also several other smaller fishponds. History The first written mention of Budišov is from 1298. The village was promoted to a market town in 1538 by Emperor Ferdinand I. Among the most notable owners of Budišov was the Berka of Dubá family. Městys (or, unofficially or obsolete, městečko iterally "small town", translated as " market town", is a status conferred on certain municipalities in the Czech Republic, lying in terms of size and importance higher than that of simple ''obec'' (municipality) but lower than that of ''město'' (city, town). Historically, a ''městys'' was a locality that had the right to stage livestock markets (and some other "extraordinary" and annual markets), and it is therefore translated as "market town". The term went out of official use in Czechoslovakia in 1954 but was reintroduced in the Czech Republic in 2006. Křižanov Highlands
The Křižanov Highlands (, ) is a highland and a geomorphological mesoregion of the Czech Republic. It is located mostly in the Vysočina Region. Geomorphology The Křižanov Highlands is a mesoregion of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands within the Bohemian Massif. It borders other mesoregions of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. A wind vane, weather vane, or weathercock is an instrument used for showing the direction of the wind. It is typically used as an architectural ornament to the highest point of a building. The word ''vane'' comes from the Old English word , meaning "flag". Berka of Dubá () was a cadet branch of a Bohemian noble family of Lords of Dubá established by Hynek Berka of Dubá (1249–1306). It held estates in what is today the Czech Republic and Saxony in Germany throughout the Middle Ages. Ancestors This old Czech family separated from the family of the lords of Dubé and are thus one of the lines of the :de:Ronow (Adelsgeschlecht), Ronows.
