Brive-la-Gaillarde Station
Brive-la-Gaillarde is a railway station serving the town of Brive-la-Gaillarde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. The station opened on 17 September 1860 and is located on the Orléans–Montauban railway, Coutras–Tulle railway, Brive-Toulouse (via Capdenac) railway and Nexon-Brive railway. The station is served by the Intercités avec réservation obligatoire (Intercity), Intercités sans réservation obligatoire (long distance) and TER (local) services operated by SNCF. It is an important railway junction, with lines towards Périgueux, Limoges via Saint-Yrieix, Limoges via Uzerche, Ussel, Aurillac, Rodez and Montauban. Brive-la-Gaillarde
Brive-la-Gaillarde (; Limousin dialect of ), commonly known as simply Brive, is a commune of France. It is a sub-prefecture and the largest city of the Corrèze department. It has around 46,000 inhabitants, while the population of the agglomeration was 75,579 in 2019. Although it is by far the biggest commune in Corrèze, the capital is Tulle. In French popular culture, the town is associated with a song by Georges Brassens. History Even though the inhabitants settled around the 1st century, the city only started to grow much later. From around the 5th century onwards, the original city began to develop around a church dedicated to Saint-Martin-l'Espagnol. During the 12th century walls were built around the city and during the Hundred Years' War a second wall was built. These fortifications no longer exist and have been replaced by boulevards. LGV Poitiers–Limoges
The LGV Poitiers–Limoges was an approximately 100 km-long (62 mi) French high-speed rail project reserved for passenger traffic between Poitiers and Limoges. It was considered since 1990's, with a serious project studied and revealed in 2006. This high-speed rail was planned to be mostly single track only. Its dual aim was: * to ensure high-speed service of the Limoges region by extending the LGV Sud Europe Atlantique. This would make a journey time between Paris and Limoges of about 2 hours possible. * to link Poitiers and Limoges in 40 minutes. Intercités (IC), known before September 2009 as ''Corail Intercités'', is a brand name used by France's national railway company, the SNCF, to denote non High-speed rail in France, high-speed services on the classic rail network in France. The SNCF established the Intercités brand in January 2006 to capture the remaining, mainly medium distance network of Corail (train), Corail trains, so called because they use the air-conditioned fleet of Corail coaches introduced by the SNCF from 1975. Intercités covers all the important SNCF routes not served by the TGV network. The ''Compagnie du chemin de fer de Paris à Orléans'' (, PO) was an early French railway company. It merged with the '' Chemins de fer du Midi'' to form the '' Chemins de fer de Paris à Orléans et du Midi'' (PO-Midi) in 1934.
